Another coffee machine story

I replaced my old broken machine last May and bought this Hamilton Beach unit:
What sold me was the push button service, which I saw at a friend's house.

Well, it broke. Something got stuck in it, and trying to clean it 10 times didn't work.
I went on Amazon to return it, and was directed to Hamilton Beach customer service. No reply after 4 days so I called.
"Your unit is covered by the 1 year limited warranty. The way it works is that we ship out a new machine, and you pay for shipping. $11." She took my credit card over the phone.

First I had to "disable" the machine by cutting of the cord. Then take a picture of it, and send it. OK, no problem, got the scissors out and did the deed. Took a pic, emailed it, and received a confirmation right away. It will be shipped out in 72 hours or less.

Truthfully, I was expecting much worse.

Did they remind you to unplug it before they had you cut the cord? smiley-laughing001

So, the other day I saw my wife poking at the insides of the toaster with a knife. Naturally, I checked to make sure it was unplugged. Boy, did I get reamed out.

No, I had to think of that on my own.

I've cut appliance cords just to make them shorter on my countertop. Doesn't seem like the surest way to prove a unit is junk.

I don't think you should have to pay the $11... The operative word, I guess, is "limited".

OK, send me the picture that shows the cord was cut please. I will call them tomorrow and tell them that mine broke, and ask for a replacement. I will gladly pay $11 for such a unit.

EDIT: better yet, just post the picture here, so everyone can call and get a unit for 11 bucks.
