"KENT, Ohio - Kent State University is closing its golf course because of declining revenues and increasing operating costs."

(Yes, this is a rude and unpardonable pun.... but it wrote itself ! I swear ! )

I was home back east over the weekend and two fairly prominent golf courses from my youth have been closed, abandoned and allowed to revert to natural vegetation. One just sold and will be the site of new $1M McMansions. I think Golf may be too slow for the younger generation.

Golf peaked early this century and has been declining ever since. Courses are closing all over the country.

Golf courses are similar to drive-in movies. The real estate is far to valuable to justify the income.

The US Army Morale Welfare and Recreation operates a golf course located in Seoul South Korea. Now that has to be some pricey real estate.

On site amenities include a driving range, locker rooms, club storage, Pro Shop, and a full menu food and beverage operation. Not too mention the real bunkers, killer hazards, and if you hit five bogies, you score an ace.

This...the one near us got sold and will have houses built on it once they do remediation on some of the soil (old orchard, chemicals)

That said golf is a sport that one can devote a lot of time to get reasonably good at. Who has that kind of time these days?
