Does anyone understand the Wallet app?

I've been using the Apple Pay in the Wallet app for quite awhile and like it.
But every time I try to scan in a barcode from a loyalty car for a supermarket or other store, it tells me "no pass available for this code."
I don't want it to do anything fancy, just give me an image the checkout clerk can scan, so I don't have to carry around those cards or annoying key-ring tags.
Is there a way to do this in Wallet?
If not, can I just take photos of my cards and tags and just present those to the clerks to scan?

I use the CardStar app for things like loyalty cards, works pretty well. Was free when I got it, don't know now.

Mac,

I gave up on Wallet app before Apple even brought Apple Pay into play. The whole design behind it was moronic, IMO. I started with Cardstar and haven't looked back. I keep card info in Wallet for Apple Pay but cards like drugstore cards, supermarket cards and such all go into Cardstar. For me, CardStar just works.

Love Cardstar - but it isn't being updated.

I see people using their iPhones for boarding passes. I just can't bring myself to do that. What if iPhone crashes or App doesn't open and I miss the flight? me, I want paper boarding pass.

Space,

If you have a digital copy, then it's easy enough to print a copy to store in your carry-on in case of emergency.

Another vote for Cardstar,

Ooops - just remembered I bought a battery from Autozone - need to add the loyalty card to cardstar.

Seems like some retailers actually like a phone number better than scanning and actual card or phone.

Art,

That and scanners still often have trouble reading the bar code off the screen of a phone.

Thanks everyone for pointing to a solution to my (admittedly First-World) problem.
On your advice, I went to the App store, did a search for Cardstar.
As it was pointed out, it hasn't been updated since iOS 6, so I tried a more recent app with lots of good reviews called "Stocard."
It's also free.
It was amazing how quickly it read my key ring tags.
As a test, I asked the counter person to read it at Planet Fitness this afternoon. It worked perfectly and it pulls up the barcode faster than the Planet Fitness app.
I can now take hose clunky tags off my key ring.
It works exactly like I expected the Wallet app to work.
