My wife passed away when she was 55 years old from complications surrounding Pulmonary Embolisms. I watched as they performed heroic measures on her for hours on end. When I initially heard the news about Carrie Fisher, it did bring back memories and I thought that she must be far past the point of no return. Rest in peace Carrie.

When the earlier news indicated that she had been unresponsive for more than 10 minutes, I was very afraid that future news would be worse rather than better.

Unfair.
RIP, Carrie.

Ack, I love her-always have from the minute my high school boy self saw her in the first Star Wars at the old Esquire Theatre in Chicago..I still love her..different sort of love back in the old days...much more respectable and wholesome sort of love for her today..

Very sad.

Great interview here..take a moment

So many great ones have passed away this year. I'm so ready for 2016 to be over. RIP Carrie ;-(

The phenomenal amount of cocaine she did in the 70s and 80s likely damaged her heart, sad to say.

Was it phenomenal amounts? Guess I only knew that she suffered depression over the years.

Oh yeah. She was higher than the Death Star while doing the Star Wars movies. She was pretty open about it later in life when she was working on her sobriety.

"Fisher publicly discussed her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and her addictions to cocaine and prescription medication..."

"Fisher revealed in another interview that she took cocaine during the filming of The Empire Strikes Back. "Slowly, I realized I was doing a bit more drugs than other people and losing my choice in the matter," she noted. In 1985, after months of sobriety, she accidentally overdosed on a combination of prescription medication and sleeping pills. She was rushed to the hospital, creating the turn of events that led to much of the material in her novel and screenplay, Postcards from the Edge. Asked why she did not take on the role of her story's protagonist, named Suzanne, in the film version, Fisher remarked, "I've already played Suzanne."

"Postcards from the Edge is a semi-autobiographical novel by Carrie Fisher, first published in 1987. It was later adapted by Fisher herself into a motion picture of the same name, which was directed by Mike Nichols and released by Columbia Pictures in 1990."

"The novel continues the epistolary form, consisting of first-person narrative excerpts from a journal Suzanne kept while coming to terms with her drug addiction and rehab experiences"
