Because of the helpful people who post here.

A couple of weeks ago, I saved $600!!! after asking for advice on purchasing a new iMac. A few minutes ago, I saved $50 on AppleCare after reading a tip from another poster.

Both of these forum members voluntarily took the time to post their tips - they didn't have to. I sincerely appreciate them and all of the rest of you who take the time to post tips for saving money.

Yeah, I don't think I've saved anywhere near as much money as Ammo, but you guys are super helpful, willing to share knowledge, experience, and insights. It feels like family. It's like a social network meets a bbs. I heartily thank our sponsors, too, for providing this place for these personalities to gather.

My gratitude knows no bounds!

Sometimes I'm hesitant to ask a question here because someone could say, "let me google that for you," or ask why I didn't ask a roofing forum since the question was about a roof. But, this forum is usually better answering a question about how much lime to put on your tomatoes than a gardening forum is. Or, at least they will give a specific link that perfectly answers your question. And, if the answer is complicated, the forum can go back and forth until you have a good answer.

Agreed. It's my first-stop. If the folks here don't know, I can always try to find a more-specific message board...but I usually don't have to.

Like all the comments above, I am so happy to be a part of this great, highly deversified group.

Over the years, I not only have received wonderful feedback to my questions, but even more important to me is the depth of feeling shared by the members, whenever someone (me, as well) has a crisis.

I haven't seen the kind of friendliness and intimacy that we share, anywhere else on the internet.

I count myself fortunate to have connected with you all, here on our forum.

Because of my heart issues, I haven't been keeping up with the Birthday wishes, so please know that the Margarita invitation is always there for you (as long as you don't all come at once and break the bank! Ha ha!) As always, RSVP...

I agree with both sentiments.

I do find it difficult to describe this forum to other people. It's called 'MacResource', but although the focus may be Macs and Apple, so many other topics come up that it's hard to characterize. What really distinguishes this group is that the contributors are adults with a variety of interests and experience who like to share. It's not only good to get advice on some many topics; it's always interesting to see what comes up.

That folks here are generally friendly and civil is an added attraction. We were all, I assume, originally drawn here (or to DealMac, back in the day) because of our interest in Macintosh computers. It was a minority view that needed defending, and made us allies. Is that still true any more? My guess is that most Mac users today do not see themselves as unusual, and they may have no special loyalty to the product. So why go to a 'Mac forum'?

Is this aging group becoming a victim of Apple's success?

I only know enough with computers to be dangerous. So I have always read the tips trying to learn. Real life issues I like to contribute to, but many times I get to the party late, and several people have already given good answers, so I I don't always add to it.
My unofficial observation is that if you get 5-6 "good" answers, there is at least 1 funny or ridiculous answer that puts a smile on your face.

No, I think the group is a victim of being hidden - it was lively during the dealmac days because there was a link on the top of dealmac for the forums. There are no links anywhere leading here. The only way new people find this place is when it shows up on a google search, they read the info goggle pointed them to, but decide to looking into it further.

Dealmac had 1000s of readers/day - how many do you think find this place via a google search?

I'm not suggesting that OWC is evil for rescuing the forum then hiding it... it's just the way things turned out.

But I think the only way to grow the place now is to have a new forum added - the OWC forum - we talk about OWC products & news and there is a link at the top of OWC pages, this forum becomes the misc forum and I suppose the looney bin would have to be removed... But then they'd really have to keep a close eye on it and keep it all clean and proper...

And occasionally, it's unintentionally hilarious. We've had some awesome threads... and should definitely have a best-of annual award.

I'll second the idea to have an OWC hardware / Mac specific forum. Could we also use some kind of SEO to up our google results ranking when we share good stuff that other specific-purpose forums have but don't do a good job of finding?

Wait, there are tips and deals here!?!?

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Yeah, computer talk is fine and we have it here for the novice or the nerd. But what makes this forum best (at least for me) is that there is pretty much no topic that folks here won't have an opinion about. And there is a very good chance there's someone here who has experienced a similar issue, or is often a professional in the field in question. Honestly, there are times when I know I could get a ton of answers to a question using google, but I value the opinions of people here more. It's sort of like Google has a higher percentage of "fake news" and MFR is the good stuff.

I mean, from "Is this food still safe to eat?", to "How do I deal with this idiot neighbor?" to "I need recommendations for a new toilet", this forum has you covered. And I wouldn't want it any other way.
