Who here has Monday off?
Posted by: $tevie
Date: January 13, 2006 12:22PM
We get Martin Luther King's Birthday off. But we don't get President's Day, so we will be facing a long stretch until Memorial Day before we see another holiday. I wish the holidays were spread out a little better; we use up three within such a short period of time and then comes that long dry spell. :-(

so no work means no pay.:-(

so. . .I will be in. . .

We get President's Day off too.

We had it off last year, and the Hollywood studios we work with bitched and moaned, so no luck this year. Seems strange that nobody in 'progressive" Hollywood observes MLK day.

When I was working in Hollywood, we were lucky if we got Xmas off.

We never got New Year's off.

MLK Day? They don't care.

I do. But most employers hate black people so they don't consider it a real holiday.

I'm doing srictly freelance work at the moment, so I forget what weekends and holidays are like. (Not complaining, I'll take the work.) My wife runs an urgent care/physical rehab center, so no holiday for her, either.

One benefit for me: I'm working on a project for the state university system - they do get MLK Day off, so my Monday deadline is actually a Tuesday deadline.

I work at a school, so we get all KINDS of days off...

So, yes.

Nope. But it's not because my boss hates black people. He hates everyone equally regardless of race, creed. color or national origin.

I'm technically employed by a "Medical Center", and since sickness and injuries don't take days off, we don't get a lot of designated holidays. However, we DO get MLK day. If you were familiar with our city's politics, you'd understand. :-)

For the months where we miss designated holidays, we get floating ("discretionary") days instead. I actually prefer this arrangement, because it makes it easier to (for example) not travel on the same weekend that everyone else is traveling.

We "technically" get it but the employees get to choose between MLK and Good Friday for a day off.

They always elect to take Good Friday off instead because we get President's Day off and they don't want the long stretch of work to Memorial Day.

My kids have school. They spend the school day studying MLK and civil rights. I think this is a far better tribute to MLK than a day off.

That's the most ignorant statement I've read in months.

Don't take the day off.
I get mandatory (we're 100% closed)four holidays a year, with one optional (pick one), for a total of five.

I do but only because I'm taking a day of vacation to recover from a whirlwind trip to Florida.
