"Poll": How many cycles on your MacBook/Pro/Air battery?
Posted by: space-time
Date: January 31, 2017 07:04AM
Not really a Poll since there is no multiple choice answer, just write the number of cycles on your battery of your MacBook/Pro/Air machine. If you have multiple, just write down as many as you can/know.

Also comments about the age of the machine and state of battery are appreciated.

I'll start first: This is a 13" Early 2011 machine bought in April 2011

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5314
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 940
Condition: Normal

2010 MBP 13": not original battery.

Cycle count: 158
Condition: Normal

Can't remember when I replaced the battery. Doesn't seem to hold a charge very long these days.

What constitutes a 'cycle'? Fully discharged and recharged? Most of the time it's off the charger for a short while, then back on. If that were a 'cycle', the count would be much higher.

What constitutes a 'cycle'?

From Apple Support:

When you use your Mac notebook, its battery goes through charge cycles. A charge cycle happens when you use all of the battery’s power—but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge.
For example, you could use half of your notebook's charge in one day, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two. In this way, it might take several days to complete a cycle.

How do some of you have such higher cycle counts with much newer machines? My Mid '09 MBR 2.53 C2D
has only a 438 cycle count!

Wow - I thought I would be the worse - I just ordered a new battery for my 2.66 MacBook Pro (2009) a few weeks ago but haven't installed.

It is REPLACE NOW
Cycle Count is 1059

It is my DJ computer so it is plugged in 95% of the time anyway. I am thinking of using a OWC data doubler and putting a 2nd 1TB drive in the Optical bay so was thinking of doing the battery replacement and drive swap at once.

How can you guys have over 1000 cycles without a Replace now.

When I had a plain old MacBook (6-8 years ago) - Apple used to say Battery life was around 300 cycles. Wonder what they say now?

Hmmm just noticed something - I guess we should also list the Full Charge capacity.

Again compared to above - I am REPLACE NOW with 2153 mAh at 100% charge vs his NORMAL with 5314 mAh. My battery is less than 1/2 of his at 100%
