....curious but do people really watch dvds more than once [ aside from animation for kids ]......??

.....stopped buying dvds because realized never watched more than once and dvds would just set on shelf gathering dust........if I want to watch again, usually just get copy for free from library.....

I buy DVDs (on sale) of movies that I would've otherwise watched in the theatres if tickets were not so expensive. $5-7 is much cheaper than the cost of a ticket where I am. After watching the movie I could theoretically never touch the DVD again and still be ahead. Or lend it out to someone for free.

Although the library is an option, I'm not retired, so the only time I have to go to the library is once a week on Saturday between errands. Not ideal for me, but I did borrow Game of Thrones seasons 1-4 from the library. And currently watching Homeland season 1-2 thanks to the library.

.....same here.....haven't been to theater in long time due to prices, so basically do the same.....watch the new movies that I really want to see when they come out on dvd @ library [ you have to get on dvd cue ] and watch 'meh' movies that don't necessary really want to see but might be interesting......for FREE [ can't beat that price ]......

.....the only thing is have to wait for movies to come out on dvd but lately, the time from theater to home dvd has been relatively short, few months-6 months, which isn't that long to wait.....

......only watch these once......thankfully, local library is close and on weekdays they open until 7 pm.......

.....to add a lot of these movies are bad, so lucky I saw for free:

Pete's Dragon [ bad live action remake ]
Sausage Party [ didn't enjoy it surprising since it is R-rated ]
The BFG [ horrible, expect better from Speilberg. don't know how it got made ]
Independence Day Resurgence [ horrible - no wonder Will Smith didn't want to come back ]
The Legend of Tarzan [ not that good ]
X-Men: Apocalypse [ meh ]
Mechanic: Resurrection [ good action sequence - unique take on those ]
Jason Bourne [ just saw this. seemed to be empty retread of earlier movies. no heart. nothing really new to add ]

Suicide Squad [ bad. just like Superman vs. Batman ]
Miss Peregrine''s Home for Peculiar Children [ awful ]
Sully [ Clint Eastwood directed but surprisingly dull and bland and repeated scenes to show different perspective on the landing. like 3-4 times. fell asleep twice while watching it, had to rewind. ]
Ben-Hur [ awful remake ]
The Magnificent Seven [ action was o.k. but again seemed like going through motions, no real heart in the movie. just action based. not worth remake. ]

Wife and I really enjoyed Pete's Dragon. And I thought Mag 7 was a fun movie as well. Oh well...

Newt, I am with you, I get movies from the library. I found that owning a bunch is not worth my $$. Plus, I like the library; I always find something else there that I want to read or watch. And, it's the friggin library! It's free!* One of the best inventions of this country.

There are a few classics we own (Mary Poppins, Chitty, etc) that can do with repeated viewing.

Also, if you do want to own films, buying them at library book sales are often real deals. I have bought many $1 DVDs there (as well as my weakness, $1 music CDs)

*well, some have started charging $1 per week for a DVD
