......the thimble is out....they already dumped the iron....

Thimble tossed! Game piece voted out of Monopoly board game

.....You can still pass "Go" and collect $200 on the Monopoly board, but you soon won't be able to do it with the thimble game piece.

Voters have rejected the thimble, an integral part of the game since being added to Monopoly in 1935. The move is part of a campaign to select the next generation of game pieces.

Hashtags, emojis and even a rubber duck may replace dogs, cats and hats in an upcoming version.

Hasbro Inc. is holding a worldwide contest to let people choose the eight tokens to be included in the next generation of the property acquisition game, based on the real streets of Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Winners will be announced March 19, and will be included in games hitting shelves this August.

thumbs down......................?!

Will make no difference to our family. For decades we used my family set with wooden houses and hotels and original game pieces. When the girls left home they asked if I could seek out similarly vintage sets for their new households.

We've used our own (mostly) porcelain and pewter mini figurines to personalize the game, as have many other folks I assume. Maybe the contest will spur some interest into yet another generation of Monopoly players. Part of its charm has been the knowledge of all the past generations that have played essentially the same game.

I dig the classic set with the original game pieces. Don't want any of that "new fangled" stuff.

Race car was the popular piece when I was a kid. Everyone wanted it.

Growing up, my neighbors had one of those. The deluxe version that came in a really nice wooden box. We were only allowed to use it with the adults - kids-only games were played using the standard-issue Monopoly game set.

It is what it is.

Same here. These days, I prefer the ship or the iron.

Once the kids were old enough to play and they were given first choice I invariably ended up as the old boot. After a while I started to choose it and these days, weirdly, I get a little miffed if someone else takes it.

All this so in five years they can come out with "vintage" throwback sets and sell them all over again.

Nobody is still using their old D&D pewter figures for Monopoly? Little Zealand #1 likes to be the skeleton holding the tattered flag.
