Just said goodbye to a great cat (longish)

We adopted Fiesta about 11 years ago when she was 3-5 years old. She was in the petting room when we are trying on other cats, and jumped into my daughter's arms and started purring. She then checked out the rest of the family before allowing us to obtain employment as her staff.

In all this time, she has never raised a claw in anger - even when the neighbor's little Bichon came over to play. When it was time to trim her nails, I'd show her the clipper. Then, she'd jump into my chair and wait for a treat before calmly purring through her mani-pedi.

She never caught anything bigger than a moth, but she did manage to tree a squirrel once. She loved to watch the birds in the feeder from her box on the radiator.

When we let her out, she'd walk the perimeter of the property to make sure her claims were intact, then she'd either find a warm bit of sidewalk or mow our lawn (or the neighbors). Though, once I whistled, she'd dash back to the front door.

She loved cold cuts (especially pastrami) and any table scraps (even meatloaf). She had stopped eating about two weeks ago, so we took her to the vet. Cancer. Her gave her some cortisone and B12 and she perked up for a week. Even put on a few pounds eating about half of the left over flank steak we had last weekend and cheese slices.

But she refused food last night and had a seizure this morning.

Goodbye little girl.

So sorry for your loss. Fiesta kitty has that well taken care of look. You did well.

You changed each others' lives, and for that you can rejoice. Non-trivial event to lose a valued member of your family. Take care.

Actually, I believe that Fiesta is a tortie, not a calico.

Sorry to hear of your loss, cats are great!

It's the white that made Fiesta a calico (and obviously a well-loved) cat. Tortoiseshells are bicolored (no white) while calicos are tri-colored (with white).

I don't think so. Torties can have white and calicos have a lot of white with tri-colors.

""Tortoiseshell" is typically reserved for particolored cats with relatively small or no white markings. Those that are largely white with tortoiseshell patches are described as tricolor,[2] tortoiseshell-and-white (in the United Kingdom), or calico (in Canada and the United States).[7]"
