Johnny was Goode, but now he's gone... RIP Chuck Berry
Posted by: Ombligo

Chuck Berry, a musical pioneer often called "the Father of Rock 'n' Roll," was found dead Saturday at a residence outside St. Louis, police in St. Charles County said. Berry, 90, wrote and recorded the rock standards "Johnny B. Goode" and "Sweet Little Sixteen."

I always liked his music more than his contemporary Elvis. He had an excitement that was fun to listen too.

Thanks for letting me share your gift.

One of his greatest tributes spawned from "Back to the Future."

“Chuck! Chuck, it’s Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you’re looking for? Well, listen to this!”

He was a musical giant, yet constantly ripped off by promoters and record labels, copied by other lesser musicians, and imprisoned under circumstances that would probably have earned a slap on the wrist for a white artist. Yeah, he was grumpy, and with damn good reason. RIP Chuck your legacy will only grow more powerful as the years go by.

Runnin' to-and-fro, hard workin' at the mill.
Never fail in the mail, yeah, come a rotten bill.
Too much monkey business
Too much monkey business.
Too much monkey business, for me to be involved in!

Salesman talkin' to me, tryin' to run me up a creek.
Say, "You can buy go on 'n try it, you can pay me next week."
Ahh!
Too much monkey business. too much monkey business.
Too much monkey business, for me to be involved in!

Blond hair, good lookin', tryin' to get me hooked.
Want me to marry, get a home, settle down, write a book.
Ahh!
Too much monkey business. too much monkey business.
Too much monkey business, for me to be involved in!

Same thing every day, gettin' up, goin' to school.
No need of me to complainin', my objections overruled,
Ahh!
Too much monkey business. too much monkey business.
Too much monkey business, for me to be involved in!

Pay phone, somethin' wrong, dime gone, will mail.
Oughta sue the operator for tellin' me a tale.
Ahh!
Too much monkey business. too much monkey business.
Too much monkey business, for me to be involved in!

Been to Yokohama, been fightin' in the war.
Army
bunk, army chow, army clothes, army car,
Aah!
Too much monkey business. too much monkey business.
Too much monkey business, for me to be involved in!

Workin' in the fillin' station, too many tasks.
Wipe the windows, check the tires, check the oil, dollar gas.
Ahh!
Too much monkey business. too much monkey business.
I don't want your botheration, get away, leave me be!

All my life he has been around. Now he's gone. What a hole his passing leaves in the music world.

"No Particular Place to Go"

RIP Chuck Berry.

Good clips of his biggest hits here:

Never saw him live, but you can see from these videos what a great stage performer he was: watch his hilarious "My Ding-a-Ling." And what a musician: watch "You Never Can Tell."

I've always enjoyed CB's music! So sorry to see him go, even though he had a hell of a nice run.

R.I.P. Chuck. You will be missed. sad smiley

The father of rock and roll. I think that title is apt.
