Ebay deal: Apple 27" iMac with Retina 5K Display late-2015, 3.3GHZ i5 2TB Fusion 8Gb Ram Apple refurb - $1499

I'm not scheduled to upgrade until after the end of the year, but this is tempting. It's priced $450 less than apple's refurb page - I don't know this seller.

27" Retina 5K IPS Display
5120 x 2880 Screen Resolution
3.3 GHz Intel Core i5 (Skylake)
8GB of 1867 MHz DDR3 RAM
2TB Fusion Drive
AMD Radeon R9 M395 GPU (2GB GDDR5)
802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0
Thunderbolt 2 + USB 3.0
Magic Keyboard & Magic Mouse 2 Included

Ken Rockwell says don't buy from a power seller unless their feedback rating is at least 99.7%.

I wonder where all these refurbs are coming from....I actually purchased a similar model (1tb fusion) for $1299 about a month ago. Seller seemed to have a couple hundred of them...again priced several hundred dollars below apple refurb. Also from NYC area. This seller is similarly setup. What's a legit reason for having quantity of new/refurb current year Apple gear? How can these prices be profitable for the sellers?

Hasn't it been established here that buyers have all the power on eBay? There was that thread a week ago about someone with a problematic buyer and bemoaning about how sellers have no recourse. Shop with confidence!

If Ken Rockwell believes that 99.7 feedback means safety and less equals danger, then he's an idiot. Who is he and why should we listen to him - especially when he says such stupid stuff?

My guess is Apple is secretly dumping these. There was a confirmed report a few years ago that Apple had a seller account on eBay and was using it to unload excess refurb inventory, and it appears they are at it again, either directly or through an intermediary.

I really want this machine but can't justify the expense, even at that great price.

So that purchase worked out well for you? I remember people commenting on those auctions when they were listed. A crazy amount of refurbs.

This thread will de-rail quickly if we start debating Rockwell's idiocy. To keep things on topic, these Macs should definitely be able to handle the basic quality JPG files he prefers to shoot.

Apple used to sell off at auction blocks of refurbished items whenever they had an excess over what they wanted to or could sell through the online Refurb Store. That is how places like Smalldog Electronics and other sellers of refurbished Apple hardware were able to get stock. They did not get the refurbs directly from Apple. This would just be a continuation of that practice, just through eBay.

Who cares what Ken Rockwell says besides Ken Rockwell?

This is the same machine that I bought last fall for...erm....more. The 2Tb Fusion drive is the way to go.

That's a great deal on one of the few Mac hardware that's not suffering from deep compromises.

I just added a 4K monitor to my MBP, and plan to just add an eGPU, or I'd get one of these.

Yup, machine arrived in perfect shape (factory sealed, Apple refurb). Works perfectly (bought for a client). Registered with Apple. I'd do it again if I needed a similar machine.
