Saw Guardians of the Galaxy

Awesome special effects, but it was just missing something that would have made it great.
Don't get me wrong, it is a nice distraction on a rainy afternoon. I was hoping for epic, but instead it was more on the level of a two part tv episode.

I think the idea is for a trilogy, but we know how sequels can suck. Caddyshack 2 for example. I hope GOTG 2 doesn't screw it up...

Just to make it clear, I saw Vol 2 today at the theater.

I thought the first movie was better.

Saw it also. I wasn't blown away like I was for the first one, but it was a good romp. Music choices were better in Vol 1. Lots of new villains. Some old ones become heroes.

I thought it was better than any of the Star Wars efforts lately. Better FX, that's for sure.

Apparently, the first one had box office receipts in excess of three quarters of a billion dollars, so it must be good?

A guy I'm friends with was Chris Pratt's lab partner in high school.

I saw the first one yesterday that I had recorded. It didn't keep my attention all that well. There were some pretty cool special effects, however. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it. Of course, if I had paid, I suppose that cognitive dissonance would have kicked in and I would have paid closer attention.

They try and to some extent succeed in developing personal relationships in this one and it slows it down. IN the first flick I had no expectations of the characters so was surprised by the quality of the cast, music, direction, plot, etc. This one was interesting and enjoyable, music, SFX and decent plot, but knew what to expect from the characters so not quite as exciting. But really good. Just a slice short of a loaf. I look forward to V3.

Could also be nothing else in theaters that's worth taking the kids to right now. And it's a sequel to a known movie, so there's the comfort level, tied in with the parents' appreciation for old music that ties into their memories.

I realize the question/comment above was likely rhetorical and/or sarcastic. smiling smiley

I really liked the first one, albeit as lightweight entertainment (there's certainly nothing wrong with that). Second one I thought was about 30 minutes too long. A bit bloated, and the CGI was out of control. I've certainly seen worse, though.

Yes. I did crack up big time at that one (although the Simpsons already did it in a Halloween Special at least five years ago).

See, that's what I liked most about this one.

I can appreciate that but different strokes. I thought (much like the approximate 1/2 hour of Logan where they also explore their interpersonal relationships) it could have been handled better. But still both are solid movies. Just a bit too much.
