weather underground site decline and alternatives

I remember they were bought by someone else a while ago...
They went to site that was much more "web 2.0" even before that.
But sometime in the last 2 months they've changed something on the backend of their site to make it practically unusable.
I used to like just seeing what the forecast temps and weather would be, they have that nice interactive by-the-hour view for a week's worth of weather showing estimated precipitation, humidity, dewpoint.

And of course the radar, which if you know how to read it, is an excellent way to get a 15-240 minute estimate of incoming bad weather.

But now, I'm reeling and looking for another source, it takes minutes* to load their page on multiple browsers.

At least the better part of one... I'm patient, but if a page doesn't load in less than 10 seconds, it's worthless, especially since they seem to then load lots of ads and possibly video in the background.

Yes, they were acquired by the Weather Channel which explains the decline. Sorry, I can't recommend any alternatives.

Yeah, WU went downhill in a very bad way.

NWS is now my first choice, which is where most of those places get their data anyway.

These aren't bad:

WU locks up my browsers for about 4 minutes before the page loads. My Android app works fine.

I'm a big weather nut and I'm always checking the weather because of my wife and son's farming operation.

wunderground works fine for me

has a nice past/current/future radar forecaster if you click on the radar map
[weather.com]

[weather.weatherbug.com] loads pretty quick without a lot of superfluous crap

The site loads OK for me (with ads blocked), still my go-to Wx page. The app and the website are sluggish on my 4S, but everything is sluggish on that anymore.

I think it's that they've changed their default landing page and that has a bunch of crap that doesn't load properly... and my inclination is to wait to let that stuff load before searching for the location I'd like the weather in.

I should just bookmark my most frequently used locations and refer to those; problem is I'm not always in a position to access those bookmarks.

I'll check out some of the alternatives - Bill's right, I do like that graph WHEN it works!

It loads instantly for me on Safari but I block ads.

"It loads instantly for me on Safari but I block ads."

Same here. Works fine in Firefox too.

Yep.

Speaking of weather, it's snowing here this morning.

Weather .gov

You will need to find your local weather service . Then there is an interactive map for 7 day forecast for chosen area . It will vary every few miles . Depending on elevation of surroundings . I live in mountain valley so can have snow in forecast 5 miles from me and just rain where am .

Love Dark Sky

Dark Sky is unbeatable for immediate-locality predictions, especially precipitation. But I've found their 1 and 3-day forecasts less than stellar for temps.

I like their radar but can't get to it from the home page. Luckily I have a bookmark that still brings it up. I don't know how that works but it does.
