Somewhere between Enterprise and TNG, is an era where everything looked nothing like either...

Meh..

stilted and cold. Doesn't really fit in the timeline where it is placed.

It sounds like a TV show created by committee, full bore PC and all that.

And I'm guessing that I won't be able to watch this unless I subscribe to the CBS streaming service?

Meh...

I knew it was going to be a disaster when every press release about the casting featured the ethnicity, sexual preference, and gender of evry character before any description of the actual CHARACTER.

It was a "designed by a committee with no creativity" train wreck from the get go.

I HOPE that it develops into something good, but not getting my hopes up.

And no, I will NOT be subscribing to watch.

I am going to give this show a chance because it is set in the Prime Universe and not the stupid JJverse.

I love the way that Sam Elliott does the voice in that.

I would much prefer bringing back the Enterprise series. It was for me the best of all the Star Trek spinoffs. Of course I realize that's not possible but any Star Trek series with Jolene Blalock would win my approval.

Yes, Enterprise revival would have been great. I want this show to succeed but it can't be a good thing to be online only. Trek makes so much money, the show should be more widely available.

Well... The prosthetics look decent.

And the female captain already seems better than Janeway.

But the rest is not hopeful. Especially not the "re-imagined" Klingons.

Heck. I'd settle for them finishing the movie.

the terms of the settlement with CBS/Paramount allow them the complete 2 x 15 minute 'episodes'. They already have amazing VFX completed and a lot of the story line shot... so should see something soon.

Tech is anachronistic re: TOS (which would be a tough nut to crack but that's why you employ good writers and SFX people). Lens flares - yeah whatever, replacing acting and writing with cinematography rarely engages the audience for more than a few episodes. Even the aliens are anachronistic compared to TOS but by this point there are so many gimmes it's starting to look like a daycare.

From Larry's link:

"this is NOT the Prime Timeline. This is a reboot or an alternate timeline like JJ created. You can say all you want that Discovery takes place in the Prime Timeline but the fact is the Prime Timeline has been defined by TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and even Enterprise. Discovery doesn’t even remotely look like any of those shows, and doesn’t try to. It clearly looks more advanced than Voyager, and the Klingons aren’t Prime Timeline Klingons. So this is a reboot."

That addresses my anachronism concerns.

It looks more advanced than Voyager? Maybe the meant Enterprise?
