Best tablet for kids?

I am looking for suggestions gang. I'm looking for a tablet for a 4 year old. I need youtube access via wifi and also maybe the ability to load movies on it. I'm trying not to spend a ton, but I'd be ok under $125 or so. What are your suggestions? Amazon Fire? Something else?

In your $ range, prob best bet.

Otherwise, iPad.

Oh and in my experince, loading movies onto a tablet is a PITA.

Whatever you do, get a rugged case. My 5 year old grandkid was using my iPad last year and was in what I thought was a fairly protective case. But nope, 5 minutes and he had dropped it on the hardwood floor and shattered the screen. He had it on his lap and something else caught his attention and off it went. My daughter got the grandkids Amazon tablets but they never use them because there are so many issues with connecting to content and parental settings etc. that the kids gould never get their apps to work. If they can't get what they want to work in about 5 seconds, they get bored and toss it aside.

Fire.. maybe the kids version which is in a rugged case, has parental controls, a 2 year no-questions asked breakage warranty. Not bad for $99

How did I ever survive childhood roadtrips? All I could do was play billboard ABC.

There are a ton of new Chrome laptops coming out. There should be comparable tablets to those laptops but I haven't seen many with really low prices yet, $140 - $180 IIRC.

Hmmm... that sounds like a great strategy for weaning kids off electronics!

This sounds like a good way to go.

Used iPad2 models go for about $150. Much more versatile.

....but you can't load movies 'directly' onto iPad......the story above reminds me, I see people give young kids iPads to use......why.....???

....they are expensive and they give it to a young child......???

.....would rather give them a cheaper tablet, so if they drop it......no big whoop......

FYI - Google Drive has made loading your own movies onto iPad much easier, no iTunes required. Also available for offline viewing. Google Drive for iOS requires 9.x and above for iPad. iPad 2-3 will work even with their iOS 9.3.5 limit.
