Musicians: Recommendation for PA speakers?

I need to purchase a set of PA speakers and stands. They will be used mainly outdoors for special events providing music or voice and probably thrown around by people who have no idea what they are....just being honest. Looking for something durable and rugged, but not crazy heavy. Already have the mixer/amp which is 300W.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Forgot to add, need SpeakOn connectors for the speakers.

JBL. Check frequency range to see if you'll also need a subwoofer. The models change often, but JBL are solid. I have the MR line. Something like the 925 should do you well (if they still make those).

You don't need Speakon, you can convert to whatever.

You would probably be better served by buying powered speakers and getting a different mixer. At least that's what I'd do if I were to build a new system. Otherwise, JBL are fairly awesome, I agree.

I like that they don't fall out and have retention. I know I could use something else, I just don't want to as I already have the cables.

We have 1 set that is powered speakers, the problem is that then you have to make all your connections right there at the speaker. It looks a lot cleaner, and is more flexible to have the speakers on the stage and everything else hidden behind.

I use the QSC K10's active speakers, 1K watts. Sound great, light weight, powerful - I've run my keyboards and several vocalists through them at the same time, filled a large hall with no problem. Zero issues, many years of service. On calls where I'm justing using keys I only take one.

They aren't cheap, however.

Another vote for QSC. We use these on gigs and love them.

Subs for outdoor events are probably a waste of money.

EDIT: unless you can afford to go big. Also, for outdoors I definitely recommend something with a hard plastic housing, not carpeted wood.
