If not Google, where do you go for news?

Thread below talks about changes to Google news layout. Anyone have another place they like for news?

I use a whole lot of news sites, including yahoo. Yes. I go to Drudge also. To me it's just a site that links other news sites. BBC, etc., etc., then filter what I want to read, and don't read most of the articles.

I just looked at Drudge. No comment about the political bent, but the layout is awful.

Thus, courier text jammed onto a page. OK.

Like I said, most of what I use are just links to other news sites. I also read Japan news sites, which gives a different world news perspective.

Yeah Gene, I'm in Japan, so want a good source for world/US news. Drudge might have a decent system for presenting links, but the visual look was unappealing at first glance. I'll look at it again.

Drudge isn't a throwback - it just hasn't changed AT ALL in 20 years

What kind of news do you want?

US tech, US state, US sports, US political?

MSN.com is half garbage (mostly clickbait) but the other half is a decent spectrum. I used to read a half dozen foreign newspaper sites to try and get unbiased news but got too busy to bother.

Looking for an aggregator site that shows me a lot of options at a glance. Yahoo news used to be OK, but now seems like a mess of advertising links posing as news. I liked Google, but they just changed the layout. I'll probably stick with Google, but the discussion below about the layout change got me wondering what other sites like that are out there? I don't think that there's much competition.

Google, Guardian, Marketwatch, reuters, sometimes dailymail for weird zhit.

Gave up my local home delivery newspaper today. Substandard Times. They were missing deliveries, promising to credit the missing ones and not doing it and now they are doing the charge for the "premium insert" by making your 8 week subscription only last 6 weeks. Screw that.

The Guardian seems to have good coverage but I'm still getting familiar with it.

Frankly I come here for that stuff, you guys and gals are pretty good curators.

Yes, I am very careful who I follow. I get news from both sides of the aisle, often hours or days before MSM. Some of those I follow are media, others are key thought leaders.

Drew,

I use Vienna, a news reader/RSS reader. I subscribe to the NY Times, BBC, CNN and several others general news, and several websites for computer news. I stopped using Google News several years ago, and never used Yahoo.

I mostly use sources in the green and grey ovals on the following chart, with emphasis on BBC, NPR, Washington Post, The Hill and NYT. I also like [www.democracynow.org] which is a completely independent news source (i.e. not funded by corporations or highly partisan organizations like the rest of them).

I also go over to Fox News and Drudge every now and then to see what kind of nonsensical propaganda is being foisted on the easily coerced.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I read CNN. If I want "fake" news, I'd go to Faux Fox News
