Has anyone been to Bermuda? Do you recommend it?
Cruise or fly?

Planning a 4-5 night trip to Bermuda in early August.
2 hour, direct, relatively cheap flight from NYC. No zika is a plus (actually mandatory for me).

Is 4-5 days enough?
Resort or "regular" hotel?

Gotta dig up my passport. Bleh.

Thanks in advance!

We went nearly thirty years ago. I'm sure things have changed a bit in that time.

We stayed at a guest house/bed and breakfast. It was cheap, the hosts were great (both now deceased). I remember flying in to land and remarking at the beautiful aqua water. I also remember getting into a cab at the airport and the driver (who was standing beside the car) saying something to the effect of "I'll drive." I had jumped into what I thought was the passenger seat, forgetting about the whole British thing.

I remember remarking that a place this beautiful could be just a 2 1/2 hour flight from Boston (I believe). I remember the beaches being beautiful, but having to be on the lookout for jellyfish. I remember renting mopeds and tooling around the island, again remaining cautious of the "wrong-sided" drivers. I remember the people being very friendly and gracious.

I still would like to go back some time, but every time I mention it, my wife reminds me that I'm not a big beach person, I don't play golf and I don't like to shop, so there's not much to do.

Went by cruise. Had a great time, nice clean, very few beggars compared to other places we have gone to. Wife went back in May, a girl's cruise so i wasn't allowed. I would, however go back when the opportunity presents itself.
It was a 5 day cruise, was enough to leave us wanting to go back, maybe a week trip would make it so we wouldn't feel like we wouldn't NEED to go back soon.

Little bro and his family took their just intro'ed original iPads there, so those were literally the first ever iPads on the island. Three out of the four iPads were stolen the second day of the trip. Other than that, they loved it.

Had a very British character to it 40 years ago. Probably still does.

Home of the $20 hamburger. Pretty nice, but you may want to explore the Virgin islands or similar.

Grrr.. my passport is expired.
Bermuda will have to be another time.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

DinerDave. Having everything taken care of by cruise sounded appealing. I know the pros and cons of a cruise. Sometimes I just don't want to deal with anything and just have someone else make the itinerary.

Buzz. My wife and her friends (during college) had a frightening robbery incident at hotel in Jamaica. The robbers came in through a window at night and ransacked the room while everyone was sleeping. My wife has sworn never to go back.

Mrbigstuff. The virgin islands (St THomas, St Croix, St John), St Lucia, and Cayman islands. were all on the radar. But until there's a vaccine for Zika it's a no go for me. For whatever reason, I'm a mosquito magnet.

Time for PLAN B.
