So what are your eclipse plans?

(the path)

I just solidified a great plan with a friend up in Oregon. Oregon is calling it the 'Eclipse Apocalypse' because they are expecting millions of people from California to descend upon them. I will be one of them.

We'll be staying at a borrowed cabin close to the totality zone then the day before, do a short drive to a trailhead and hike to a lake at the base of Three Fingered Jack. Camp and frolic for the eclipse, then hike out the next day.

I've been assured that it won't rain.

Daytrip to St Louis, probably. Unfortunately, there's a 31 percent chance it'll be cloudy that day.

Have plans at some friends farm in E Oregon. Camping in their field with the yearling colts! Then obsidian and pertrified wood collecting in Oregon and NE California.

I'm contemplating driving up - about a 5+ hour drive. It would be a once in a lifetime experience for me.

Finding a place to stay might be a problem. I might try driving up up the coast early in the morning to catch the 9AM event. Traffic on I-5 could be heavy.

I live in Brevard, NC so my wife and I will be outside on our drive way pullout. Haven't checked on possible cloud cover yet but I have my glasses ready.

I thought about going to my sisters outside Newport, TN but that means visiting my sister. So I'll be satisfied with the 85% we will get at home.

Need to get a couple viewers.

I'm planning on leaving wed or thu - hoping that takes care of most of the traffic.

I've seen an 89% partial eclipse - it's nothing. Most didn't even notice. The sun is a little dimmer - like fire season in california. Go drive a little bill - see something amazing. Maybe you'll be a little less miserable when you get back.

Can we assume you're speaking specifically of viewing TOTAL solar eclipses?

There've been a number of total and partial eclipse paths that have crossed the U.S.:1970, 1979, 1984, 1994, 2012

And, depending on how old you are, upcoming in 2024, 2045 (another really good one.)

We’ll be in Wyoming. We made our reservations to stay in Yellowstone over a year ago, so we’re not paying outrageous prices, just the regular room rates. The Super 8 motel in Jackson WY is charging $600/night around the eclipse!

Driving up to the GA/TN/NC border area, short hop from Atlanta. We already have sets of welders goggles (strength 14) ready to go.

the 2045 looks promising, of course I'll be in my mid-80's so there is a chance I'll miss it.

Doesn't look like I'll be doing anything. It won't be much to see here in AZ. But the point of greatest duration occurs just south of my hometown, Carbondale Illinois, pretty much within a mile or so from my dad's house. I don't think he's renting space on his land, although he could, but he could well have some uninvited visitors!

I will be glued to my TV set on local channels, with my laptop set to view CNN and my iPad set to view Fox....just to see which former president they blame the eclipse on.

Sit on the front stoop.

Drink beer.

Wait for the apocalypse.

Repeat.

Could be waiting awhile.

Better get more beer.

We're supposed to get 85% of totality here. If it weren't on a Tuesday, one week after the school year starts, we'd probably go visit a friend in SC to see it. But it's at least a 5 hour drive to Charleston SC, so we'll probably just stay here. I've already seen a total solar eclipse.
