I am really starting to HATE iTunes & Photos
Posted by: JPK

Both have become completely unintuitive and take a multiple of time to do what I used to do in a couple of clicks.

Apple's piss poor software strategy is actually affecting my loyalty to this brand.

I am actually looking for suggestions for alternatives!

ideas?

Yep, Photos still sucks compared to iPhoto but iTunes isn't so bad, IMHO.

When Apple abandoned their human interface standards it was the beginning of the end for their usability edge.

Isn't iPhoto still available?

I've still got it and use it instead of Photos.

Running Sierra.

iTunes sucks more and more with every update but I like the photo editing features of Photos if you activate all of them.

iPhoto is still available and usable. If it becomes incompatible with future OSX versions I plan to run it in a virtual machine. My preference would be for Photos to catch up. I know a lot of people have defected to Lightroom.

iTunes is frustrating but still works for basic tasks. I pointed a Plex server at my library and use that most of the time. A vastly superior experience.

I agree Apples software strategy really hurts the overall brand. I'm not feeling as loyal or as locked in as I used to.

More and more I find myself thinking apples software has become more and more like Microsofts used to be, a royal pain in the butt. Thankfully now I am retired and spend less and less time trying to use their crap.

Ironically, Microsoft's software has become a lot more like Apple's used to be.

You're only now starting to hate them? Join the club! It's pretty large.
Oh! and add iCloud to the mix, too.

You can always try to send constructive feedback. I suppose it's possible that some of this stuff is seen by Apple, but direct feedback would be better.

I just spent a chunk of my afternoon in iTunes 10, updating stuff on my iPod Classic. The Classic is a better music player than the more recent devices, IMHO. I confirmed my recollection that in iTunes 10, changes made to playlists and track info that are on the iPod actually stick: I see them on the iPod, and I see the same thing that iTunes is showing as being on the iPod. And Playlist Folders actually work. I really need Playlist Folders and so forth to work on my other newer devices, but in iTunes 12, it just doesn't. They really broke something. I realize that they want to steer people toward Apple Music, so I guess they have little incentive to fix the process of manually adding tracks from one's own library to an iDevice and organizing them sensibly.

I'm not sure I'd go that far.

Two thumbs up. I couldn't agree more.

A good sign of bad UI is when every time you open the app, your blood pressure rises. I feel this every time I use iTunes and Photo.

Example: I do a search in Photo for a name "Barb" in all 14,000 images. It's impossible. Instead, it gives me a dropdown menu choice. Do you mean in the Title? In the Name? In the location? In the Keywords? How about in the Description? I want to yell at it and say, "in everything. Just show me everything that possibly relates to John."

Example 2: The Adjust Time and Date feature is utterly broken. If you try altering more than 5 images at a time, they simply don't change the date/time.

iTunes: give me a feature that says, "since I will never, ever purchase a song from this app, please remove everything related to selling and marketing of any song. All I want to do is play my music."

I hear that Photos has improved in High Sierra.
