Heh. Friend of a friend used to own a home in St. Paul de Vence in France - old walled medieval-style town. Lots of touristy shops along winding narrow streets/walkways, as was his home. One day he's sitting in his family room watching TV, and a lady tourist opens the door, steps in, looks around, seems to think, hmph- not much in this shop - and leaves without a word.

They moved shortly thereafter.

Chinese have a simple solution to this, you live on a second floor, shops on the first, small step staircase between the two, and I really mean small step, as very shallow and very low....
