question about upgrading from Parallels 9 to 12

I have Parallels v9, running a SL disc image under Mavericks. I purchased v12, as I'm thinking of updating to El Cap soon. How easy will it be to "upgrade" my disc image of SL? Obviously I would like it to run just like it does now. Although I do have some issues now... I started with it on my old Mac Pro 3,1. When I moved over to my 5,1, it kept popping up a message to the effect that it thought I was running an old version of the OS. I have to run a command in the terminal every time I reboot to get it to work.

If anyone has done this, or has any tips, let me know.

Make sure your version of Windows will run in v.12. Newer version of Boot Camp won't work with Win7 or WinXP.

My daughter is running Win 7 in Parallels 12 under 10.11. Runs well.

Note that there was so much cruft in her earlier Win7 VM that she abandoned it for a brand new VM. Had to do the patches but it gave it a nice new car feel on an old OS. Her Win7 apps/data was no problem to move on a large flash drive (rather than migrate through El Cap.)

Snow Leopard, or Snow Leopard Server?

Snow Leopard, which has been "modified" to look like SL Server (by adding one blank file).

It's possible that this hack no longer works in later versions of Parallels. I wish Apple would just allow the use of the SL client in virtual machines. I got the Server version, and it's been fine; it may not be available through Apple anymore, unfortunately. It can be hard getting anyone at the Mothership to understand what you are trying to buy, and even having the part number doesn't necessarily help.

Snow Leopard itself is still listed as available on the Apple Store, but the listing for the Server version no longer shows up for a search. I also bought a copy a couple years back to run in a VM.
