Fortunately, they don't have an IC engine that needs to start.. so, probably better than your gasser.

My question: Is the battery chamber heated to prevent charging at below freezing temperatures (which I understand can ruin the battery due to lithium metal depositing on the anode)? Or is there a temperature sensor that prevents charging below freezing?

Or a fully loaded CX5? =)

I just built one for $35000, same starting price as a Tesla 3...

Range is reduced by about 40%.

The Chevy Volt has a liquid cooling system that moderates the battery. It cools it at night temps and heats it at lower temps. I'm sure the Teslas are the same.

That's just great. So I'd have to go search out a suitable 'night temp' to keep my battery warm. From what I've seen around here, it'll be a difficult search. My battery is particular. Thanks, Elon.

Maybe that's why I don't see any Teslas on the roads around here. I imagine big cities and Calif in general have more suitable 'night temps'.

.

Sounds like a great excuse to move to a warmer climate... so you can drive around in a $40,000 car...?

So your battery would have a discharge...

Only if there is a way to reduce torque at the wheels to reduce slippage. Electric motors have 100% torque at low rpms. In my gasser I need to keep the rpms down to lower the wheel torque to prevent slippage. it would also be harder to "rock" the electric vehicle to get unstuck.

Just a cheap rude joke. I saw the opportunity and I went for it.
