Job Interview via Skype

I am learning employers are relying heavily on out of state contracted staffing agencies (no more HR dept) to screen potential employees. Someone even mentioned job interviews via Skype. I have heard CEO, CIO, etc. doing this type of interview but for low level skill and paying jobs at supermarket, retail stores, etc. Really?!! Fake news?!! Anyone here has Skyped for a job interview? Also, job fair is now the rage as well. Hundred show up for one open position that pays $10.50- $12 per hour. SMDH.

SoCal for now.

I work remotely for my employer and have interviewed people via google hangout. but we're talking about engineering work so there's clear cutoffs for required skills.

I do a Skype or FaceTime interview before I bring candidates for on-site interview. I can ask people to make a sketch or even looking at the way they explain technical stuff in a discussion gives you an idea about their skills.

I went on an interview for a position at an Apple Store. No phone nor FT; all face to face interview.

it is one thing when you drive 10 miles to an Apple Store, it is a different thing when you fly in someone from across the country or even cross the globe, you arrange a 30 min presentation in front of the Director and your colleagues, you give a 1 h tour and then arrange 4-6 30 min 1:1 interviews with your colleagues. You better make damn sure the candidate is worth it.

Skype first, then in-person.

I interviewed several summer intern candidates this spring via Skype. They were students attending school out of town or did not have local transportation to our site; one was even abroad in spain. It's not my preferred method, but it works and I'll probably be doing it more often as I get accustomed to myself.
