I think I'm at about 94%, it looks like Nasa hid the link to calculate based on your location.

It's a this side of the pond event.

If this were 1000 years ago it would be a powerful omen. Might still be, who knows. grinning smiley

When the sky goes dark, I plan on turning to my stepson, and telling him it is a sign from God to stop playing with himself. If he promises, God will bring the Sun back.

100% totality. But rain forecast is 50%.

Betcha rain chance where I will be standing will be 100% for the 2 plus minutes of totality. Or at least 100% overcast, so the darkness will be complete. At least that has been my luck with other astral events (moon eclipses, meteor showers, satellite passes, even rocket launches that track up the east coast).

That site must be getting slammed. It took quite awhile and wouldn't recognize my dinky little town. I then tried a town 10 miles South of me. 74.9% in West Branch, MI.

Site didn't work. We're only partial here in the Boston area, but the afternoon should be clear.

No glasses. As I recall people used to use exposed film negatives (with no images) to look at eclipses. Is that adequate? I might be able to find some.

about 85% here. My wife and I have already seen a total eclipse on our honeymoon, so we're not planning on getting any closer. Actually, we probably would have, but our son (who attends a science charter school), didn't seem all that up on driving 5+ hours to see totality. Probably would have been much more than 5 hours. Traffic is expected to be horrible.

There's going to be another total eclipse in the US in 7 years. Mainly in Texas and the midwest. Or, if I'm around in 28 years, one will come right through Florida.

I have heard from someone who claims to know that xray film and negatives are not sufficient. Unfortunately, you don't know if what you used works by ending up blinded or not.

We are at 96% and I have glasses but the local TV stations are covering it so I might enjoy the darkness outside and watch the sun itself on TV.

Or, I might put on the glasses for two and a half minutes and watch. We'll see on Monday, I guess.

A mere 75.9%

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

That's a sure way to permanently damage your vision. Smarter to make a simple binocular or pinhole projector. Google it.

99.3% This is the second time for me. In 1979 we had 100% but there was cloud cover. Not nearly the hype as this one.

100% for 2 minutes and 27 seconds. In my back yard. Hopefully won't rain. Can see the sun right now. That's a good sign.
