Samsung Evo 500 gb $150, should I?

I currently have a 256 gig in this MacBook Pro (last model with all the normal plugins, and optical drive), I have my iTunes data, and Photos Data and Jams Lite for karaoke data on an external drive. And that seems to work fine.

But I am tempted by spending $150 to bring all that data on board, and do away with the need for an external drive to hold data.

That's a pretty good price (especially recently) for a great SSD. I'd buy it for that price if I needed it. Amazon? Looks like it hasn't been at that price regularly for over a year.

OWCs neptune has been $150 for a long long time. [eshop.macsales.com]

Ive seen the 850 for $150 a couple of times now, I didnt post it because several other places were only a few bucks more, so didnt seem like much of a deal.

$150 on sale or $158 at B&H all the time. MX300 is $155. Sandisk Ultra II $154. etc

Those $99 750 GB Crucial MX300s from almost a year ago really was the last good deal on a bigger SSD.

The 850 EVO is the fastest affordable SATA-III SSD available so if it costs the same or less than other SATA SSDs, then it's the best option. Between the Neptune, MX300, Ultra II, and EVO, I'd get the EVO.

However $99 for those 750 MX300s was a *fantastic* deal and I wish I'd bought 3 (or 5!) instead of the one I did buy, which is in my daily driver.

I bought the 1TB EVO a few years ago. Compared to a spinning HDD, the EVO SCREAMS! Time to boot up is about three times faster.

yup, do it if you need it. They are great drives, and this is about the best mail-order price I've seen in recent months. Apparently, if you have a local Fry's store, they have them for $129, but not everyone does.
