Bought a bike today for $5

Probably just yard art. Drum brakes front and rear (dumb brakes as we used to call them back in the dealership) and a Made in Norway stamp.

Anyone know more about this brand or bike?

I love it. However, that rather nice but completely inappropriate 1990s touring rack has got to go. You can probably sell it for as much as the bike cost you.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

That hub will alone will probably get you another bike, if you are selling parts

Don't remove any of the rust. That's what's probably holding it together.

Is it crazy to think that there is a service manual anywhere on-line? I found nothing in my crappy Google skillz.

Both hubs are drum brake models.

Google Sturmey Archer 3 speed for the drive components.
Any period manual you find is going to be in Norwegian, sooo
Here's the current manual which is linked to from their website: [app.box.com]
MAY help with the drum brakes, or not. In Norsk, Svensk, og Finsk.

If you google Norwegian DBS bicycle, JØS drum brakes, DBS drum brakes, plenty of hits come up.

Sturmey Archer was a good mid-level brand back in the '60's, have not followed it since the '70's. When their multi-speed hub was working, it was relatively smooth. I had one back around then, have no idea what happened to it though. Not familiar with the Norwegian brand of bike though.

Not a bad yard ornament, maybe feed it to a tree?

I agree with parting it out. It's rare enough here that you will pay way too much for parts to restore it.

I don't like 3 speeds. My first semester in college dorms, my roommate had a new Raleigh. I borrowed it because I hadn't decided on which bike to get yet. I paid for rebuilding the transmission twice because they didn't seem to be designed to take the torque to go up steep hills.

Here in the UK the Sturmey-Archer 3 speed gears was the standard on most basic bikes for many years. Just Googled so make that over 80 years!
