So, at this time, is iTunes still the only way to get music FILES to an iPhone/iPad?

Just checking... since my 2008 iMac running 10.6.8 (yes, I've let it lag FAR behind) stopped being able to communicate with my iPad and iPhone 5s a LONG time ago..

Is iTunes still the only way to get actual, physical, non-streamy, music/audio files onto an iPhone/iPad?

Or is there another way to transfer them?
One not involving a soldering iron...

RhythmBox on Ubuntu will do it. You can probably compile it for OS X, but I don't know if that function will continue to work.

Thanks!
I just happen to have an old PC laptop with Ubuntu 16 on it...
Bet I can make that work. Or a virtual machine.

You can put music files in your Dropbox, and then on your phone retrieve them for offline use. Dropbox has its own music player, but I prefer the Juke app.
