Scared myself today (computer-related brain malfunction)

I was about to work on some images today, and discovered to my shock and horror that the folder containing all the images shot with one particular camera (Pentax K3 II) was missing. Since I had backed up my entire images folder very recently, the K3 II folder was missing from the backups, too. My Dropbox backups are fairly current but the last couple of folders for the two cameras I use regularly have not been uploaded yet. Spotlight could not locate a folder on any attached drive for K3 II. I finally found a backup (on a disk image) from late July that contained the missing K3 II folder, so I was able to get most of the missing material back, although it didn't include three days worth of images shot after the backup date. One set was still retrievable from an SD card. So not too much lost, but pretty alarming.

So I've been restoring the missing images, and re-processing the ones I pulled from the SD card, until a few minutes ago, when I discovered that the missing folder had accidentally been moved into a sub-folder for a different camera.

Big relief: but kind of annoying and disturbing that Spotlight could find no trace of it, since it existed in the incorrect location on multiple drives.

I hate to tell you this but there is no effective treatment for Alzheimer's.

Thanks for the reminder: I've several folders of photos that I haven't backed up to Dropbox.

I'm paranoid, so I Duplicate the folders and store the duplicates on Dropbox.

Of course, I have my nightly clone, and my TM backup, too. Still, you never know. . .

I'd heard that somewhere, but I had forgotten it.

What did you say again ?

EasyFind is a very good alternative to Spotlight for a number of uses.
