.....quietly [ no mention ]......

......only the 256 and 512 GB models [ the same models as before - no upgrades ] by $50 [ so if you bought them on Monday, they would have been $50 cheaper ]......due to rising NAND flash costs......

Apple increases prices of select iPad Pro models due to rising NAND flash costs

....Apple today has quietly increased the prices of select iPad Pro models. Without official announcement, the company raised the prices of the 256GB/512GB 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models by $50. This move is due to the rising cost of NAND flash memory chips, according to sources in the know.

With the pricing increase, the 256GB 10.5-inch iPad Pro now costs $799, while the 512GB model costs $999. As for the 12.9-inch model, the 256GB tier now runs $949 while the 512GB variant maxes out at $1149.

Apple has kept the pricing of the entry-level 64GB iPad Pro the same, with the 10.5-inch starting at $649 and the 12.9-inch at $799.

Sources in the know tell us that the increase in price for the high-capacity iPad Pro models is due to a dramatic increase in the cost of NAND flash storage. This is something that Apple CFO Luca Maestri hinted at during Apple’s second quarter earnings call earlier this year:

We started to experience some level of cost pressure on the memory side particularly on on and on NAND and DRAM. To offset that and actually do better than that, we had very good cost performance on other commodities.

The impact on NAND and DRAM will continue to be there and we expect it to be there.

Apple has been causing NAND supply shortages itself recently as it looks to source components for the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, so this could be a side effect of that.

The problem will be more acute for the NAND market, where the iPhone remains a critical source of demand given the huge sales volumes and recent moves to increase storage capacity on the device.

It’s unclear whether or not Apple will adjust the prices of iPad Pro models should the price of NAND flash storage fall back down, but it’s clear that today’s price increase is something that Apple feels is out of its control.

everything goes up...............?!

I just heard that, and I'm a bit miffed - at myself - for not getting the iPad Pro earlier. I have all of these gift cards accumulated that would have netted me the iPad for not much out-of-pocket, this price hike effectively negates 2-$25 gift cards. banghead smiley
