Need some prayers and positive vibes sent this way...
Posted by: DP

My wife's niece is in Rome on a trip with her dad. She was out biking earlier today and was struck by a vehicle and is in bad shape. She apparently has had her spleen removed so far. I haven't heard anything for a couple of hours, so I hope no news is good news. My wife is with her sister (the mother) now.

One order of positive thoughts, headed that way!

Wishing her a fast recovery!

Positive vibes heading her way....

My third sister was struck by a car at age.. um .. 10 ? in the late 1970's. Spleen ruptured, pelvis crushed, legs crushed. She spent pretty much the whole summer in the hospital in a full body cast. Now ? She's a hyperactive woman with an MA in educationm mother of three somewhat learning challenged (somewhere on the autistm spectrum) boys , who does darn near everything and runs marathons with her husband. Despite the fact that one leg is about an inch longer than the other.

Every injury is different, but younger folk recover amazingly well from accidents that would put us older farts under the daisies. Keep hope alive !

Positive thoughts, I hope she fully recovers. I also hope the medical bills will not be a major problem for the family.

Good news! She's out of surgery and is stable. Lost blood due to spleen rupture and has other non life threatening injuries (such as some teeth knocked out) but has talked to her mother. Looks like a week in the hospital.
But a bit of a PITA is that her mother is flying to Italy tonight and it's costing $3K rt. No special emergency rate for overseas flights...
All in all, tho, things are sounding positive. Thx for the well wishes and prayers-it is greatly appreciated!

Aw, I hate seeing young folk getting hurt.

Best of wishes, and a speedy recovery for her.

Glad to hear she's on the mend already.

The spleen has is part of the immune system, but people can survive without one, taking extra precautions WRT infection, e.g. by vaccination.

great great news! I am sure a week in hospital in Italy is less than a DAY in a US Hospital. Our prices here are ridiculous.
