experiences buying sunglasses online?

I'm due for a new set of cycling glasses and i'm interested in a couple of different Adidas pairs. It seems that its difficult to find them locally. I'm leaning toward buying online, perhaps getting two pair and returning one.

In particular - [www.otticanet.com] or [www.otticanet.com]

(yeah, they're a bit expensive but I think I ride enough to justify it)

Does anyone have experience with [www.otticanet.com]? Are there sites you recommend?

Sunglasses were the first thing I bought on the web! I took a gamble and bought them from "The Superhighway Sunglass Shop" back in 1996, and I'm still wearing them today. smiling smiley

And that's your non-useful post for the day...

I'll see you again... when we are both like golden clouds on the wind.

Any site that puts that their products are "100% authentic and original glasses" at the very top of their site is probably lying. Real shops don't need to do that.

I would get them from somewhere listed on their official store finder: [www.adidassporteyewear.com]

The only 'shops' it lists are optometrists.

Matt,

Not necessarily a surprise. They might be the only authorized shops that sell the brand.

Robert

Which is another reason to believe the site above is not authorized, and likely, not selling authentic goods.

C(-)ris,

Exactly. Adidas isn't one of the brands produced by Luxottica, the biggest manufacturer of eyewear in the world. Adidas licenses the brand to Silhouette International. That's likely why it's tough to find Adidas eyewear locally. Definitely not as common as the brands sold by Luxottica and its major competitor.

I'm not sure why anyone would pay more than $20 or so for a pair of sunglasses.

Be every careful searching online. I am told that the knockoffs are a fairly close approximation now. Make sure you are buying from a reputable seller. I am in the process of trying to figure it out myself.

Free,

Quality. There are some immediately recognizable differences between dirt cheap sunglasses like the ones you grab at the local drugstore and those from an eyewear store. And there are differences between the cheap eyeglass store sunglasses and name brands. Styling, design, etc. Once you hit the eyeglass store, the differences aren't nearly as evident. You may not see any at all. 'course, factor in a prescription and all bets are off.

UV protection would be a good reason.

You can get that for $20.

What I can't get for $20 is a pair of sunglasses that support my hyperoptic, astygmatic, elderly eyes.

Finding a pair that will hold (ok, not quite like my wife's coke bottles) lenses that thick is a challenge - and I paid more for them than that.

In April the forum provided lots of advice on sunglasses. Based on that I acquired a pair of Ryders Seventh for about $50.

They weren't polarized so I ended up buying a similar pair for about $20 from Aliexpress. I use this pair more frequently than the Ryders.
