27" iMac with Retina 5K Display, 2TB Fusion (Late 2015) MK482LL/A—$1,360!

It occurs to me that not everyone was following my perambulations toward finding a path from the failing HD on my 2009 iMac,

[forums.macresource.com]

so you might have missed the happy tip from jdc about an eBay seller with new (not refurb) late-2015 27" iMacs, with 8GB, 2TB Fusion Drive, AMD 395 graphics card, 5K display, etc. for $1,359.99. This is $340 less than Apple charges for a refurb of the same model. No idea how long this will last, but they've already sold more than 100. I was skeptical, but others say the vendor (6th Avenue Sales) is reputable, so I ordered one and solved my problem:

Great mrlynn! Sounds like a very good deal. Is it easy to upgrade the RAM in this model?

DIY about 30 seconds. 4 slots. Will take up to 64 GB. Just don’t ask how much 64 GB costs...

Yes, Apple kindly left the little door in the back of the 27" iMacs for RAM upgrades. Not so kind with the 21.5" iMacs, which have soldered-in RAM.

Did the seller charge tax on your purchase?

It would add $100 for me if they do.

Nope. Free shipping, too.

Does your state have a 'Sales and Use Tax'? If so, then like Massachusetts, you are supposed to pay sales tax on purchases even if you are not charged.

I pulled the trigger also.

My 2010 i7 iMac (owned for 6+ years) has been great but is starting to have some issues. Hopefully I'll be good for another 6 years.

Estimated delivery: Nov. 30 - Dec. 13

Nice. I made almost the same transition, from 2010 2.93 i7 to 2014 3.5 i5.

I'm not sure what I'd do with this machine - my i3 24" iMac still does more than what I need ...

Well, it's not really a question of 'need' for me. I survived for years with just a 15" TiBook and an external 20". But then I saw the 27" iMac in the Apple Store, and I was smitten. So of course I've been hooked. I could go back, but I don't have to—yet. And the more I got into photography, the more I appreciated the '09 iMac's 27" display. They say the 2015 is even better, so I'm looking forward to it eagerly. But it is an indulgence, to be sure.

Enjoy! (not trying to be critical of anyone else's purchase, just humble to realize this 5k monitor has nothing for me at this time in my life!)

I'm curious how this iMac compares with the 2015 21" 4k Retina iMac 3.3 i7 8 with 16 GB ram and a 2TB Fusion drive that we recently bought for$1500 as a refurb from Apple. Mavis didn't want a larger screen, so this seemed like a perfect match for her.

So, outside of the screen size, how does our iMac compare with this deal? I really have no idea about the difference between i5 and i7? I was happy to find an iMac with 16GB and a 2TB Fusion drive.

Thanks for your comments!

LEADER!

The eBay listing says the OS is High Sierra. Is that correct?

Mine is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday. :-)

A BIG LEADER! to all!

I'm not ready to post about my surgery yet, except to say that I survived...

I do want to say that I share the excitement of the new iMacs. I just about have Mavis' iMac set up and it is a thing of beauty. It came with a new BTW keyboard and mouse, which were a surprising bonus.

A bright note in my current battles.

Well if it weren't for having to pay rent, and buy Christmas gifts for 15 siblings and there spouses, (and my 5 kids) I would be pulling the trigger on this deal right now!
