I'm back on the market!

...looking for work. I do primarily web dev / javascript / web infrastructure.

I always like to field a lot of different opinions when solving problem. If you work in this market, hit me up.

I'd say more but this forum is _incredibly_ well indexed by google. But I can say its some unpleasant fallout from this - [www.wired.com] - and it remains to be seen whether it was better to stay or be let go.

What is WeWork? I've just started seeing that pop up in news articles in the last week or so. Never heard of them before and that article says they're valued at $20billion!??!

Isn't WeWork just shared office space re-marketed to sound cool?

yes, but they also have a terrifying vision of company culture - [vimeo.com]

Yeah, I moved from nyc to Madison, WI. I plan on staying in Madison. I need to invest some time in learning about the local tech scene.

Actually, after reading the article, it sounds like a smart move on WeWork's part. The test will be down the road a year from now...

Eh, if they can't write a good puff piece while money is exchanging hands then it'll never happen.

both companies have a strong user base in large urban areas. its unclear to me how this fosters growth.

From what I can gather from the video, their work culture requires super cute girls to wear bikinis, and everyone has to attend raves all day long, or be punished by being made to dress in a Panda costume. Is that correct? Or did I miss something?

And nobody is married or has kids or any responsibilities outside of partying work hours.

I was wondering if anybody at WeWork did anything that wasn't closely related to web development or headhunting, but they do have building security and building maintenance positions open.

How long until we are only on the MacResource Facebook Group...

Epic is the largest employer of programmers in the area. They also have high turnover and work the crap out of everyone. If high pressure and fast pace is something you thrive in you will do just fine.

Luckily, the programmers don't have to travel as much as the project managers, the Twenty-Somethings who travel to the customers and work onsite with hospitals/healthcare groups.

Those are young and invulnerable enough to cope with a week in Boston and two weeks in Charlotte then back to Boston and another week in Maine (keep in mind, that was an actual itinerary, and there were no days off -- weekends were spent training a hospital's staff). Luckily, this kid's supervisor MADE him take a week off and stay in Maine for some skiing. smiling smiley
