Best Buy has WD 4TB desktop and WD 4TB portables for $100:

I bought a couple of desktop 'EasyStore' for my TM backup (so I can rotate them).

Their 8TBs were $200, so I passed. Might have been tempted if I saw $150. But I haven't had good luck with Seagates.

BestBuy has been selling the WD 8TB for $150-$160. I would wait for that sale again.

Also, the actual drive inside the WD 8TB drive is their Red NAS drive. I bought two last fall and put them inside my Pro. Bought another two on BF... haven't cracked them open yet.

I got mine at the end of last week. Very, very smooth drive. I couldn't tell it was spinning except for the LED. It's connected to my AirPort Extreme and I backed up four Macs to it, two over Ethernet and two via WiFi, all using Time Machine.

I got the Seagate 8TBs a year ago, it's their shingled storage Archive model. Speed for backups is not an issue but don't even think you'll use this as much more than a WORM drive. It does very well at that for me (as one of 3 backup sets).

Yes. And prone to dying young.

Watch for sales on the USB hub version of the external.

Cracked one open and found a "real" Barracuda in it.
