Small footprint good printer?

My daughter is looking for a small footprint printer. They don't make those small ones like Apple had when we first had Apple! Is there one you can recommend?

Black and White only, we tend to recommend Brother lasers around here.
Color, there is a whole discussion about it.
How small of a footprint ? There are 'portable' printers that fit a super small footprint niche.

Ultimately it depends on what she plans to do with it. Bonus points if it's a laser for black and white proofing (hearkening back to an old thread from the DealMac days).

I picked up a Canon Pixma TS6020 for $50 ~ a month ago. I'm reasonably happy with it. It's a five tank All-In-One inkjet. You can print directly from computers, phones & tablets as well as via USB. I recently saw it again at $50.

Best bet is probably look at mobile printers for small footprint.
Been too many years since I owned one to even comment on a recommendation.

Sam,

There is small, as in portable size, and small as in 18"x18"x10" or 18"x24"x10 type size. I wouldn't go with a portable model. I've used them and they tend to be pricey for what you get and don't perform all that well. Such is the nature of a portable printer. What level of usage is your daughter planning and how much does she want to spend on the printer?

If she really wants just a printer, then take a look at the Brother laser printers. They are not particularly large. Also would strongly encourage getting a duplexing model for two-sided printing.

For example:
Brother HL-L2315DW
Estimated Street Price: $89.99
Compact Laser Printer with Wireless Networking and 2-Sided Printing
Prints up to 24 ppm

or

Brother HL-L2340DW
Estimated Street Price: $119.99
Compact Laser Printer with Wireless and Duplex
Prints up to 24 ppm

Samsung also has some nice small laser printers. Consumer reports particularly liked the
Samsung Xpress M2835DW

There are some laser printers where the front folds down to hold the paper supply. When the paper is removed and the front folded the printer is smaller:

Canon LBP6030w - $75
[www.amazon.com]

Canon LBP6230dw (duplex) - $90
[www.amazon.com]

HP LaserJet Pro M12w - $128
[www.amazon.com]

(discontinued, but might still be available)
Samsung Xpress M2020W
[www.amazon.com]

Note that Samsung sold its printer division to HP in 2016.

Good luck.

I love my canon mf4350d because I bought it in 2009 and it still runs perfectly. Bought it for $150 in a time when 6months earlier, ANY laser printer cost over $300.

No special printing just stuff here and there from the net. Color. Also perhaps Excel spreadsheets as she does work for a lady's business. Not a photo printer.

Sam,

Lots of options in the $75 and under. They are primarily small all-in-one models that print, copy and scan. Likely, wireless and USB. You can find similar sized models that also fax. If she is doing work for someone's business, I'd definitely consider an all-in-one of some kind. Since size is an issue, she should take a run to Staples or Office Depot and give them a looksie. That way, she can look specifically at models that are in the proper size range.

Color.

Well, that nixes all of my suggestions!

I would strongly recommend looking at all-in-one machines. Having a copier/scanner can be extremely useful.

For what it's worth, Consumer Reports likes:
Inkjet printers:
EpsonWorkforce Pro WF-5190

Color Laser printers:
SamsungProXpress C2620DW

Among inkjet all-in-ones, the top two at CR are:
EpsonExpression Premium XP-640
Price: $150.00

Epson Expression Premium XP-640
Price: $130.00

Take a look at Consumer Search, which aggregates other reviews:
