....There has been “some type of explosion” in a Manhattan subway, according to police. There are so far no reports of injuries.

A man with a “possible second device” has been detained in the subway tunnel, sources said. He was described him as “having wires coming out of him.”

Numerous trains are now bypassing Times Square and Port Authority, the MTA says.

The A, C and E trains are being evacuated, according to police.

Earlier, MTA confirmed the following changes:
•Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 7 trains, and N, Q, R and W trains are bypassing Times Sq-42 St in both directions, according to the MTA.
•A, C and E Subway trains are bypassing 42 St/Port Authority-Bus Terminal in both directions.
•There is no S 42 St shuttle service in both directions.

The NYPD is responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave, #Manhattan. The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time. Info is preliminary, more when available

stay tuned for more up-to-date information.....?!

Edit: Buzzfeed article with quote from a commuter near the scene at the time of the incident.

Washington Post.

“New York police responding to reported explosion in Manhattan

Police in New York said they were responding Monday morning to a reported explosion in Midtown at an intersection near the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Few details were immediately available. In a post on Twitter, the New York Police Department said it was “responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origins” at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.

A police spokesman said a suspect was taken into custody after the incident. He said the suspect was injured and described the situation as “very fluid.”

The New York Fire Department said there was one non-life-threatening injury due to the explosion, but the department did not specify if the person injured was the suspect.

The Port Authority Bus Terminal, which bills itself as the world’s busiest bus terminal, also is not far from Times Square. The incident occurred in the subway, a police spokesman said. According to the police, three subway lines — the A, C and E — were being evacuated.”

Like the E train isn't slow enuf?

“It wasn't a big explosion,” one law enforcement source said.
A small pipe bomb went off near the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Monday, and the suspect was immediately taken into custody, police sources said.

The blast went off in an underground subway passage just 200 feet from the terminal at West 42nd St. and Eighth Ave., the sources said.

The male suspect is believed to be the only person injured by the explosion, sources said.
Police found an explosive device on the suspect, who had wires attached to his body, one source added.

Authorities evacuated the A, C and E trains, but didn’t find any structural damage. “It wasn't a big explosion,” one law enforcement source said.

Mayor de Blasio has been briefed about the ongoing situation, as has President Trump. Gov. Cuomo was photographed with MTA Chair Joe Lhota inside the Times Square subway station being briefed on the situation. Early morning blast sent panic through the busy area, as commuters scrambled to safety.

Ulises Sanchez, 53, saw people come pouring out on the street after the blast went off. “A lady told me, ‘Go away. There was an explosion down there,’” said Ulises Sanchez, 53. “Everybody was trying to get out.”

Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, speaking on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," said preliminary information suggests the man is in his 20s, possibly from Bangladesh, "who supposedly was setting the device off in the name of ISIS, so definitely a terrorist attack, definitely intended." The man has been in the country for about seven years, Bratton said. No group has taken responsibility for the attack, and the NYPD hasn’t confirmed a motive.

Made it the office. Was sitting on the train when everyone's phone starts ringing and pinging. Social media reports came through before official news reports so info was pretty scattered initially. When I got up to street level it was packed with redirected traffic and emergency vehicles.

In that area during that time, any explosion, even a small one could be catastrophic. During rush hour it's packed with people shoulder to shoulder. Similar to a large concert or stadium event letting out.

Bleh.

My Sister was in Port Authority when this happened this AM..She knows this tunnel well..all safe but, like everyone else there, shaken by the prospect that this stuff is real and close..When the Trade Centers went down, She lived about 20 blocks away, uptown from the WTC's..She's had enough of this crap and now walks down the street with eyes and ears wide open..crazy world.
