Which musicians have you seen live but are now dead?
Posted by: pinkoos
Date: December 14, 2017 01:48PM
Now that the previous informal poll ( [forums.macresource.com] ) has revealed that many of the forumites are older (and wiser, of course!), I thought it would be interesting to see what musicians you've seen live but are now dead? Not out of morbid curiosity, but curiosity nonetheless.

From all the concerts I've attended ( [www.setlist.fm] ), here's my relatively short list:

Walter Becker (Steely Dan)
Tom Petty
Glenn Frey (Eagles)
Chris Squire (Yes)
Malcolm Young (AC/DC)
Pat DiNizio (Smithereens)
Stevie Ray Vaughan
John Entwistle (The Who) [I, unfortunately, never got to see the Who when Keith Moon was still alive]

I can't think of a list because it is sort of sad. But on Stevie Ray Vaughan, first he was amazing live, so I am really glad I got that opportunity, and

Unrelated to his show, I was driving home in the fog late that night from Wisconsin to Chicago when he crashed in the helicopter. So I have always felt a connection to having been right there when he died.

Saw Paul Revere (RIP) and the Raiders open for the Rolling Stones (with Brian Jones) in St. Louis in the Mid 60s.
Ditto Carl and Dennis Wilson.
Ditto Walter Becker with Steely Dan.

All on my surprisingly short list have been covered by y'all except Chris Cornell. Saw him just months before he checked out. Mother effing amazing. Opener was the Fabulous Negrito. Never heard of him before then, but that combo is near the top of my shortlist of favorite concerts ever.

Conversely, it was the absolute worst audience I'd ever seen.

Forgot Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul, and Mary) in the trio a couple of times.
Saw The Band (with Rick Danko and Levon Helm) backing Bob Dylan.
Both again in St. Louis in the Mid 60s.
