I have a Frigidaire Gallery set of under counter Washer/Dryer..front loading, duh.

good machines..at the end..Have been searching and searching for replacements

Everything out there is so stupidly giant sized now.

Anyone here going / gone through the same issue?

Anyone find anything? Tips? ...........help

...I don't want the so called 'compact size' machines..the washer we have right now is 34 3/4 high x 27 wide x 28 deep..

Yeah- consumer products go through fashions, like clothes or more so.

Maybe eBay?

I went through something similar about 15 years ago, washer died, but I had to replace the dryer at the same time because they changed the standard width of washers and a new one wouldn't fit in the confined space next to the dryer unless I got a new and narrower matching dryer.

Well, you could always lower the floor ;)

The Electrolux was 24 W X 25 D X 33.5 H -- seems liek that would fit?

You can replace the bearing setup for about $15 in parts unless the entire spider is corroded into nothingness. Which is a possibility. Those idiots made the spider out of aluminum, and attached it to stainless steel, and submerge it is water filled with chemicals. Morans just built a battery. Huge class action lawsuit in Canada, which they lost. Now, in the US, they refuse to admit there is an issue. I guess they don't know about the interwebs.

I've thought about lowering the floor..lol, believe me

Those machines are compacts..i'd lose to much cubic footage in the drum

I think the bearing setup on this machine is like 200 plus dollars..__EDIT and correction..it was a new drum WITH bearing

Im mulling over buying a bunch of parts and keeping the thing running for a while..it's been a good machine all in all..very real chance of this

Is your frontloader the 3.4 CF model? We had one of those. Good machine until the bearing retainer ate itself from the poor material choices.

Didn't know they made one that small back then. Anyway. They were great when new, the corrosion is what kills the bearing assembly. We found a 4.x CF sized one for $150 at a building materials salvage shop, complete with pedestal foot platform. Near mint, barely used 1 year newer. Replaced our 3.4 that shook itself to death.

and, just to talked to the rep i've been dealing with at ABT in chicago..a place that has a big eyeball on everything out there..

And the ones that are closest, that he suggested..36" high and proper width..are discontinued as of the last month or so..

And, interestingly..Just got off the phone with the repair guys who have maintained this machine over the years, say they have two old school front loaders in the shop for total rebuilds for the exact same reason..size - height being critical..but also depth and width, of course..and that their competitors in the next set of towns out here (michigan) have been going through the exact same issue..and both of them are left wondering why one of these companies doesn't resurrect manufacturing for one solid design in the traditionally accepted dimensions..because the market is there..

They also said that most of these giant front loaders are silly because a lot of the loads that end being commonly done in these giant machines are smaller loads..pair of pants needed for a night..some underwear and socks etc..which is actually an excellent point.. He said everyone wants to feel like they have a laundromat in their house with these imitations of commercial machines..which 'look like commercial' but are basically the same consumer quality in their guts..
