Despite getting a flu shot. Taking Tamiflu because I went to the doc this morning.(symptoms started yesterday morning).

Symptoms are basically “God just kill me already “.
I’ll stay away from work for a week so nobody gets it. I just hope my lovely wife doesn’t get it.

You're not alone. 67-90% of people who got the 2017 flu shot are still getting the flu.

You're not alone. 67-90% of people who got the 2017 flu shot are still getting susceptible to the flu this year.

FTFY.

...This year's flu shot is not so effective as last year's. They guessed wrong about which strains would be dominant.

A much lower number, but you can't compare. On average, those who get the flu shot get the flu at a higher rate than those who don't. But that's primarily because those who get it typically have a higher chance of getting it to begin with.

That's not how it's calculated. My original wording was correct. Efficacy of these shots is calculated by what percentage of those who got the shot still contract the flu and report it.

That number is at roughly 32% so far in the United States.

Not 67% or higher.

Not for this year. Google it and you'll find plenty of sources.

The CDC only reports after the season has ended. As a result, we have only the various state agencies reports to go by. Few states hae issued reports, but of those that have done so (including New York and Massachusetts) the average rate for those vaccinated is about 32%.

What you are likely referring to is the number being bandied around based upon the rate of infection in Australia. Since we use the same vaccine, but get our flu season later, it's assumed that we'll follow their lead statistically. But that's not always the case and so far it has not been the case this season.

Or maybe you're specifically referring to H3N2. The vaccine protects against several strains of the virus and it appears to be very effective against the type-B virus this year. No stats are out that are specific to H3N2, but physicians are reporting low immune responses in high-risk groups such as the elderly.

We had outbreaks of H3N2 last year, and immunity from that seems to be moderating the epidemic in the in the U.S.

The UK, is getting slammed, but that seems to be more from budget cuts in the NHS than the 10% or so rise in admissions for flu symptoms in the last month. (A little bigger than the usual bump in December.) They're reporting about 50% effectiveness of the vaccine so far this season.
