This thread is not about how old you are

it's about how much you think you have left. based on your age and your best guesstimate of life expectancy, how much do you think you have left?

my guess is about 40 years.

I should have at least 30-40 more years.

...But I got screwed by a botched medical procedure a few years back. Very lucky if I make it that far now.

If the quality of healthcare keeps declining in this country, I may need to move elsewhere just to stay alive.

Having lived in Japan for many years, I wish we could be there until we die. Excellent medical care, great insurance, and old age homes, etc. Also Thailand. New granddaughter is keeping us in America now.

Time left? We can't know, but for me, I don't think I'll make it more than maybe 5-10 more years, if that.

Ten years if I'm lucky. Twenty if I'm very lucky, but maybe I won't feel so lucky by then.

That or some variation of that question crosses my mind almost every day. If I get to match my dad, I get 20 more years.

30 years would take me to just shy of 100. Hope I can still think clearly then and be capable of walks along the ocean!

Hoping for 30 more good years.

But that would mean I'd have to outlive both parents (but live less long as my grandmother).

Given that my old man grew up a peasant without any of the benefits i got, at the turn of the 19th-20th century, I figure if i take care of myself i can get at least five more years, which would get me 18-20 years more life for me. If I get 15 good ones where I'm still dancing I will be happy.

I have a husband-hunting lady friend—she's 62—who figures at anyone her age has maybe 20 good years left and tho she wouldn't rule out falling in love with someone ten years older than her, she is afraid of spending the last ten of her good years taking care of someone who is already past their "good" years. I guess there is a certain logic to this but i still think she is a twit for thinking this way.

And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.

Somewhat of a crapshoot. Under normal circumstances, I would say 25 more years. But Crohns has been lurking behind the scenes for almost 25 years now and I feel like I have been living the charmed life based on the number of TV commercials I see for Humira. So I live life like it might be shorter...making it count.

Possibly up to 35 years if I live as long as my grandparents (if cancer doesn't get me first). My parents died a few years early because of 30+ years of smoking.

I woke up this morning, that is always a good thing and I'm hoping the trend continues for many years to come. Still, one day I won't and I'll never know the difference.

Back in the old country, my ancestors believed that adding "Alte" (Old) or "Chaya/Chaim" (Life) to a person's name could confuse the Angel of Death. Not ready to do that myself, but perhaps it is something to keep in mind.

Having lived in Japan for many years, I wish we could be there until we die. Excellent medical care, great insurance, and old age homes, etc

The Japanese have always had a great reverence for their elderly. Part of their religious beliefs are a worship of their ancestors. Here in America, many think old folks are just a drain on society and are therefore just (figuratively) kicked to the side of the road.

Attitudes need to change. How many people do you know that have an elderly parent living with them, or otherwise have to care for them, and consider it just a pain in the ass? Do they realize this person gave
them life-the greatest gift of all?

I know, I got off topic. Sorry. End of rant.

I'm confused as to whether hookers and booze adds or subtracts years.

I just signed up for a bike ride called the Markleeville Deathride. Is that an indication?

Bout 30 years, if I’m real lucky.

Unfortunately, I’m two-thirds of my way there. But no complaints- it’s been a good life (so far)...

No frikking idea.

Up until a few years ago, I’d have said I was good to go for a nice, long stretch as long as I shed a reasonable amount of weight, in a reasonable amount of time.

Cut to now, and an out of the blue health IED has taken me from taking stairs two at a time to using a walker on “bad” days.

IF I can make it over this new hump, and IF I can shake it off and renew my stores of discipline and grit to dump the extra weight (24/7 chronic pain sucks up the stiff upper lip juice), and IF healthcare doesn’t get strip mined down to $15,000 band-aids and bottles of iodine that cost more than a new house, heck, I might make the century mark.

I’m not betting the farm on it though. smiley-laughing001

50 more years gets me to 65. Seems doable.

I'd be happy if I got 40 more years.

Like others this is Not my favorite subject; however, according to pipiens link, 7 on the low side to 11 on the high side. Really don't care to know when or how and there's more to consider. Quality vs Quantity of life, which would you select?

my dad worked 30 years for the pension my mom has been collecting on for 52 years so far.

Oh, and my blueprint estimate was 92 (which is seven years longer than my father and currently 5 years younger that my mother, but she isn't done yet.) Having seen how my dad was in the last few years of his life makes me more concerned about quality of life vs pure longevity.

Oh, and my blueprint estimate was 92

Interesting. Mine was 86. I think it's off when it comes to exercise as it only drops 3 years if I don't exercise at all. There was nothing I could do to get it past 87. I wonder why you get 5 more years.

The other thing that hasn't been brought up is quality of life. People are living longer, but they're also spending more time not being able to care for themselves or do anything.

1. My Dad's still going strong at 93. Plans to spend a week in the Caribbean in February.

2. It's not the years, it's the mileage.

3. Truly, I'm a little more interested in what happens after I leave this body....but I've always enjoyed the trailers at the movies!

Males on the paternal side of my family - dead around 70.

Dad has made it almost a decade past that, but his quality of life is poor...

I'd rather check out at our family's average "three score and ten" than go through what he's experiencing.

Mom died at 79, dad still going strong at 89. So about 15 years. The aforementioned website calculates me living until 89 and wife to 95.
