Okay, this is beginning to drive me nuts...

Somehow, someway I must have set some preference to investigate every file I click on.

While in column view, if I single click on a document, I'll get the spinning beachball while the computer spends a minute finding all the info as a preview to put into the next column. Movies, understandably, take even longer for a preview. I don't remember this activity going on just a month ago so it's either because of an update or a preference got changed. I can't find anything in system preference that would govern the activity though.

BTW, it's sys 10.4.3 on a G5 2.5 dual (not core) if the information matters.

While that ball is spinning, it's basically locking up my finder so if anyone knows how I can stop the Preview, please let me know. Thanks.

try Apple-J (View options) for show file info and/or show icon preview.

Thanks Incognegro, I knew it had to be something that had gotten turned on, I just thought it would have been in the preferences pane. Again thanks, that worked.

It sounds like what that pirate said who had the ship's wheel down the front of his trousers.

"Why do you have that there? It looks uncomfortable."

"Arrrg. It's driving me nuts."
