Kind of bummed about local Restaurant Valentine's Day menus

Or lack thereof.
Three nice area restaurants we like to go to for special occasions are all open, taking reservations, but not doing anything special on the menu's. Usually they up their game somehow with special selections. Not this year, by the looks of it.

Maybe they have finally realized that this is one of the most forgettable "holidays" in existence. Another "Give us your money" day.

I just took my wife out to dinner for her birthday on Saturday. I spent more for the dinner than I thought possible. It was delicious, but you'd never guess that it was possible to drop 3 bills on a dinner in Yakima WA. That won't likely happen again in my lifetime.

C'mon! Isn't your wife worth it? Isn't Yakima worth it?

Too much hype, waits, and crowds to go out if you ask us. We used to go out for breakfast that day, but our current plan is even better.

We go out for lunch on a different day off, after a hike or something, and on the real day I make something gooodddd... this year:
Molten chocolate almond cakes
Some special large format beer (we have a nice selection)
Air fried asparagus
Hasselback potatoes
Sautéed mushrooms and spinach
Quorn "chicken" cutlets with homemade gravy

I love having an occasion to do this sort of thing. I can't even get a meal like this in a local restaurant-maybe in Boston or NYC. No gifts, just cards.

You're just spending all that money you saved on gas!

LOL, who knew I'd make a good wife?! It shocks me sometimes how domestic I can be. Lemme ask if my husband minds if I marry you smiling smiley Actually, we might even go kayaking on our day off, that would beat hiking.

I'm going to guess you bought a bottle of wine. Otherwise, what the hell did you buy that set you back over $300? The highest I ever paid for a dinner for the two of us was probably in the $120 range (no wine). I can't see going even that high again.

I usually make my wife a special dinner on special days. No fuss about going out, running around, dealing with crowds. We can relax in our jammies.

We had 2 cocktails each. The meal was 4 course. It's the kind of place where 6 people stand around the table putting little touches on the plate and it looks like a work of art when they're done. Was it worth $300? No, not in my mind, but it was my wife's birthday so my opinion doesn't count for much.
