Bullitt is 50 years old.

Anybody else have one of these recently?

I'm older than Bullitt... so I guess this thread qualifies as one such moment.

It is what it is.

The moon landings happened 49 years ago. It's now ancient history. My kids view it in the same way as Alexander the Great's travels..

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Or grunge bands on the "Classic Rock" stations. My classic rock station often rocks harder than the "Rock" station.

Had one of those moments a couple of weeks ago when I met with some people from a university I attended. I was half afraid to ask about some of the teachers I’d had in case they were dead.

Heh, 20 years ago I was thinking about what Muzak versions of Master of Puppets or Ace of Spades would sound like.

I was just reminiscing with a friend that I purchased an Apocalyptica album somewhere around 1995 from CDNow before they were purchased by Amazon. They were literally operating out of a garage/train station at the time.

Edit: I guess it was '97.

I'm jolted when I see commercials on TV that have background music from 60s rock groups. When I was listening to the radio back then, the music was the reason. I never thought that one day that music would be just background for ads.

Now, a song might appear in countless commercials BEFORE its album is even released. old fogey smiley

But if you read further down, it's kind of cool how artists can get exposure they never would have gotten. Some may say it's selling out, but it's just just publicity isn't it? A chance for new audiences to discover their work.

Oddly enough, I said that on Saturday at a bridge game where I'm one of the youngest people in the room (not saying much). There was a radio in the kitchen that was mostly blasting static, and I couldn't concentrate.

I may have been the only one in the room who could hear it.

The other side of the coin is that my partner's grown kids think that the truck radio blasting Ozzy is too loud most of the time.

What to they know.

When the grandkids came over and got excited about the rotary phone we were using. They just had to call somebody every time they came over. Interesting that they knew the number to dial! For that matter grandson #1 got excited about my Marantz cassette player.

First occurrence was seeing the ANTIQUE license plate on a VW bug.

Next was when I was administering AP exams for the school district. The international science fair was in town and I included those kids in my test rooms. One girl did not have her AP book with that year's particular number so she called her counselor back home. I did not even have access to a phone let alone one readily at hand. The very thought of calling school back home told me where I was in the scheme of things.
