Is there a way I can open old Freehand 7 files?

I should have planned for this situation but I did not.

I see that Adobe Freehand does not work with OS 10.6 or higher, which I do not have. I am using Sierra on a 2015 iMac with Illustrator CS6. I don't have an older OS available.

I see there is a third-party plugin ( Tensai FH-AI Plugins ) but from what I understand, it cost $50.

Is there a way to access these files or am I up the creek without a paddle? - TIA

Thanks Done. It looked like a good solution but I didn't see Freehand listed in their Image Conversion 'From' list.

I should add too that it's not life or death if I can't open the files.

A search turned up this:

There are probably some folks here who have Illustrator CS2.

I keep a Snow Leopard machine with CS3 for such situations. PM me the file and I'll return it as Illustrator CS6.

Success!

I realized I still had a copy of Illustrator CS5 installed (it opened in Sierra) and then tried to open one of the Freehand files. It opened, except for a missing font dialogue, which doesn't matter for me now (would not open in CS6).

I was able to save it as an Illustrator CS5 file (not 6), then I opened it with Illustrator CS6 — it seems to be just fine with no problems.

Thanks ka jowct & Mr Downtown!

I think I still have Freehand 8 installed on some old system. Not sure which one. We switched to Illustrator at work, so Freehand fell by the wayside. Most of my old files of that type were done in Illutrator 8 or 10.

I did notice that on a very few of my files, some of the strokes were heavier than what they should be. I'm assuming that happened during the Freehand —>Illustrator CS5 conversion. It's probably not a problem if you're opening and saving them with earlier versions of the OS and Illustrator.
