Downloaded Adobe's apps that are pencil compatible along with a couple of more but wondering if there is a list of "must have" apps for the new iPads and iPad Pros that take advantage of the Apple Pencil???

I'm in the market for either the new iPad or 10.5" iPP, but mainly for sketching out simple circuits and wiring diagrams.

Notability seems to be a good choice for that. It also takes audio recordings that are tied into the notes you take. Call up a note and you'll get the audio recording at the time you wrote that note.

I'm not much for note taking in general or artful sketching, so I'm looking for an app that does some handwriting recognition and convert various squiggles into straight lines. Not a deal breaker, so a basic drawing app will probably do for me.

Second vote for Notability. Use it to write notes on pdfs that we are studying.

Would suggest looking at these two add-ons:

Here's an article one the new 2018 iPad by Serenity Caldwell, formerly of Macworld magazine and now at imore.com:

To me, the 2018 base-model 9.7-inch iPad is a special beast: It hits a line drive right through the company's fabled intersection of technology and liberal arts — and at the right price point. The iPad Pro did it first, but at a cost unattainable for all but the tinkerers and serious artists, and without iOS 11's crucial multitasking features. At $329, the iPad offers a low-end tablet experience unlike any other on the market. Add an extra $99 for Apple Pencil, and Apple has created the best device for all-purpose education, period.

But it's easy to make that claim, and a whole other thing to explain why I believe it so whole-heartedly. As a result, I decided to try and prove it: Starting with a blank page in Procreate, I created an entire iPad review video by just using my 2018 iPad, Apple Pencil, and third-party apps. My Mac came into play only once — when I uploaded my video to YouTube.

Here it is.

Nope... IMO it's just a fun gadget... Had to have one... The Crayon might be better option for most people...

Ironically, you're the only one who can answer your question.

Some people are still more comfortable actually writing than typing. So much so that one company has a display cover that's supposed to give the Pencil (and probably other similar tools) the feel of writing on paper.

If you want to do any sketching with any degree of accuracy, the Pencil or compatible stylus is a must.

If you are an artist, and want to draw or 'paint', the Pencil or equivalent (LOL, what am I saying) is a must.

If none of the above apply to you, then I'd guess you don't need the Pencil. Given that I'm considering the smaller iPP, if I switch to the new iP2018, the Pencil is a given.

And you're right, CJ. Most people won't have the option of the Crayon, at least for now. Competitors may bring out something similar, or Logitech may open up sales later. The Pencil has more features, but if I knew someone who could get me the Crayon, I'd give it a try.

CJ, you can certainly use any other stylus that you like or already have. The Pencil is capable of more, though, and has the most natural feel; it even looks like a standard pencil. Of course, it all depends on what you want to do on the iPad. Alas, I don't have a Pencil, but my iPad is too old to use it. My son has an iPad Pro, though, and loves the Pencil. He has painted and sketched with various other styluses (stylii?), but says the Pencil is much better and more precise. He can even use the side of the tip for shading, just like a "real" pencil. I don't know of any other stylus that can do that. And yes, I want to upgrade!
