Would you eat a Tarantula Burger?

[abc11.com]

For Exotic Meat Month, a celebration of the restaurant's anniversary where it serves burgers made from meats from around the world, BCB is serving up a juicy burger with a huge, hairy zebra tarantula on top!

So, how can you get your hands on the eight-legged beef sandwich?

Well, the Tarantula Challenge (that's what they're calling it) is by lottery only.

Yep, it's a limited challenge that you not only have to willingly sign up for, but you have to wait to see if you're one of the lucky few selected.

pRICE,

Some types of itching powder is made from tarantula hair. Methinks an itchiness in one's mouth and throat will no doubt ruin one's enjoyment of the burger. 'course, like grasshopper tacos, a tarantula burger sounds BLECH anyway but that's a different matter entirely.

Um... Uhh... What Paul said.

I think it's a trick though.

Tarantula burgers eat you!

I often attend the Explorer's club annual dinner. One feature that sometimes makes the news is the 'Exotics Table'. Tarantulas regularly make an appearance along with other tasty tidbits like Scorpions and various grubs. One year I spoke to a fellow that had eaten an incorrectly prepared Tarantula the year before. The hairs had not been all seared off. He had a sore throat for months.

Doesn't appeal to me, but bear in mind that lobsters and spiders are both arthropods and thus loosely related.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

but bear in mind

I'd rather not, if it's all the same to you. In fact I'm going to what I can to forget that tidbit.

davester, you have an incredible wealth and breadth of knowledge, but this is one time I wouldn't have minded if you had kept that to yourself. LOL

Love always!

Hmmm, the one in that burger photo looks a little hairy. eek2 smiley

As to the original question, my answer is a qualified no. I have no desire to eat exotic food; I just see no reason. The qualification is if I were paid enough, then yes.

What doesn't kill you, weakens you and leaves you open to opportunistic infections that will kill you.
