I need a new chair, any ideas?

I find my old chair uncomfortable, I think it was a Staples Brand, I recall it was on sale and it was not very expensive. I would like one with arms that are adjustable or even better one where the arms can be lifted up. This makes sliding the chair under the desk possible (the one I have now does not fit under desk, because or arm rests).

Also I am undecided between fake leather and mesh. Seems mesh offers better ventilation and may be more comfortable in the long term?

I should probably look up what model I have at work and buy a similar one for home...

Any of these choices seems like a particularly good deal? I also have a $25 off coupon code from Staples.

I have bought a couple of Staples Baird chairs. I broke the first one (borderline on the weight rating), but liked it enough to replace it. On sale about every other month for about $170.

Ive had the $200 tempeur pedic one for a while now, its as good as any cheap chair Ive sat in. its no steelcase, but comfy.

Its wide, so if you are that helps, but chushion seems thin sometimes. Mesh back is a take it or leave it thing. If you sat me in the chair blindfolded not sure I could confirm its a mesh, feels "normal"

I don't get cold all that easily, but it happens to me with mesh chairs in air conditioned buildings. Even with the Hermie Aeron chairs. It's a bit better at home in warm weather, since we try to keep the AC use down.

Herman Miller Aeron or a Steelcase Leap. Budget? Those are both about a grand.

I have a Aeron I got from a Marketing company that went out of business. Had it for 10 years, still an amazing chair.

Staples office chairs by their very definition are cheap junk.

And I am too cheap to drop a grand on a good one, but I am not too proud to drag used office furniture warehouses here in town. Picked up 2 Aerons for $300 couple years ago, now I need 2 more.

I checked out my usual places and they want over $500.
Each.....

We had a series of cheap chairs from Staples and similar sources. The Other Human destroyed them all. I ordered the last one online, because it was built to handle more weight. It’s not in great shape, but it’s mostly OK after about 4 years of abuse. I don’r recall the brand but could find the info. If I were getting a chair just for my use, I’d get a good mesh chair.

Definitely check used office supply furniture places.

Here is one in Milwaukee: $350 for a B size Aeron

Used! Craigslist or eBay or a local used place.

That has been my experience with them. They last maybe a year in our household. Would last at least twice as long if I were the only user.

I would add a vote for used aeron or similar. Bought mine used about 15 years ago. $300 seemed high at the time but it has been a great investment.

Chairs are kinda like bicycles. Until you experience a good one you view it as utilitarian and think they are all the same. They are not.

Spend an extra 100 or so and you will not regret it.

Aside: I still check craigslist for them and see some good deals from individual sellers. "Good" meaning less than the used office supply guys who are all priced the same.

Ikea

You can sit in and try out a bunch of them.

We have 2 of these at home.

it appears that on that model you cannot flip up the arm rests.

My vote is for a use Aeron. My other suggestion would be getting an adjustable standing desk. Spending less time in a given chair makes ALL chairs more comfortable.

I have a chair that has basically flat bungee cords for the seat and back. Got it at The Container Store. It's surprisingly extremely comfortable. And light. They make one with arms, and one without. I got the one with arms. Cost was like $120 on sale.
