Where's the headphone jack you want to pull audio from --- on the camcorder? If so, just import the cam into iMovie to get the sound. Either that or connect the headphone jack to your Mac's input jack and use Audio Recorder/Audacity/Amadeus/WireTap etc. to record it.

you shouldn't need "pass through" for audio, that is for digital video. If the audio is not on the camcorder DV tape, then connecting the headphone source to the mac directly (usually, mini plug to miniplug) would work much better.

I guess I need to explain more. Music is being played through external speakers that have a headphone jack. The source is music video being played on the computer and I want to pull audio from it. I would gladly buy it but iTunes doesn't have it.

If the audio is coming into the Mac at its line in jack, the apps I mentioned will capture it. As I type this, I have a cassette deck connected to my Mac's input. Audio Recorder is capturing it to my HD.

But if the audio is already ON the computer and you're playing it back FROM the computer, explain further because maybe it's something that can just be converted or imported into iTunes.

If not, you'll need something that can nab audio from within the Mac as it plays --- I use WireTap for that (to capture MP3 internet streams in real time) because the basic functions are free. Just make sure no other apps make any beeps or sounds or that'll be captured too.

What would happen if you connected the headphone jack line-out to the line-in of your Mac running a suitable recording program (i.e. GarageBand, or other easy recording solution)?

Wouldn't that tear a hole in the universe? (I know, I stole this line)
